  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Just saying Hi

Welcome to BFC!

Great photos, you come from a very picturesque and quiet part of the country, and you've got some good tough knives that should serve you well.

Transylvania is my favourite part of Romania, the mountains are great.

BTW, my mother's side of the family comes from Brasov.

Thank YOU guys for the appreciation, I'm glad you like them.

To answer your messages:

bh49 : The first set of pics was taken using a Nikon Coolpix which belongs to my brother in law who lives in France, he came visiting and I took him to those places.
The snow shots have been taken this year after I finally managed to get my own digicam - a good ol' Sony Cybershot S80.

Emanuel: Brasov is a wonderful town, a beautiful "melange" of medieval and modern, very picturesque, you should drop by some time :)

longbow: Ploiesti is indeed an oil pruducing area (at least it used to be) I don't know if it still is. I remember Hitler had his eyes on the refinery in Ploiesti during WWII. The bombardment that took place there is one of the most famous events in this part of Europe during the war.

I didn't expect so many of you guys had connections to this end of the world. I suddenly feel more at home :)

dpimpc: Just let me know when you're coming :)

Cheers,
WoodsWalker

There are a few of us with connections to Romania, and atleast one or 2 that live in Romania.

Long time and well known member "Flava" is from Timisoara (I think) and now lives in France.
And I remember there's a big Spyderco fan/designer here that goes by the handle Dialex. He lives in Romania.

As for me, I was born in Bucharest, grew up in the US(north Jersey), and now been living in New Zealand for the past decade.
Also, I'm a German citizen, spent a few years there too. Oh and I'm Jewish.

I've been around, I've been around the block man.:D :)

Hi Woodswalker--
welcome to the forums. My wife's father was from Transylvania (Valea Lui Mihiae--( did I spell that right?) near Debrecen. Never been there myself, but would like to go someday.

Hi shaldag, Valea lui Mihai (Mihai's valley or Michael's Valley) is a small town in NW of Romania, indeed close to the borderline but Debrecen is in Hungary. The county is called Bihor in north western Transylvania, a very nice area too with great mountains to hike and camp in. You'd enjoy it there.

Thanks, NZ has it's moments!
