Does anyone else here carry slip joints exclusively?

I've gotten to the point that I have not carried any lockblade knife for a couple of years now, with my edc being a sak of some sort in combination with a stockman or barlow. I still use my old Bertram Bros. Hen and Rooster, or my old carbon Case barlow.

I have a couple of Opinels and a Gerber Gator, but I find that the slippy does all my cutting needs short of going to a fixed blade. The single blade knives live in the drawer.

Well I started out with spyderco's and I still have them, but I haven't seen them in a while... Either a SAK or a Queen D2 are in my pocket, so I fear I'm heading that direction...

Of course there are locking blades on my multi-tools, but I generally don't use the blades on them.

but I have found that my Moore Maker Mini trapper is my EDC, and on somedays I slum it with a Benchmade also.

As mentioned above, not exclusively but I always have 2 with me, usually my Amber Bone Schrade TRT Trapper and an Burnt Stag Queen Congress.

I don't carry a locking folder much anymore. I do take my BUCK 110 or 112 out for a walk once in a while but that doesn't happen much anymore. Usually I carry either a sak , stockman or a trapper.
I can use my slip-joint for anything I would use a locking folder short of self defense with complete trust and comfort. I don't carry for self-defense but if I had to use them I bet the clip blade of my stockman or the spey of my trappers would slash like nobody's business.

I carry based on what I expect for the day.

At work, 99% of the time it's 1-2 slipjoints. If I throw a bigger one in the left pocket (anything with a 3.75" or bigger main blade), there's always a smaller one in the right pocket. I also carry a second stainless one if my primary for the day is carbon steel, I don't like cutting up my fruit with carbon blades.

Off work, 75% of the time it's tactical or fixed usually backed up with a slipjoint, 25% of the time it's a slipjoint only.

Sadly, starting Friday I will not be able to carry a slipjoint for about 3 months, so I picked up a MT Scarab which will be seeing a lot of pocket time.

cpirtle, if it is none of my business just say so but I have to ask. What is going on that you cannot carry a slipjoint but an MT Scarab is OK?

(edit - I just noticed that Spark has activated my custom title :D )

Thomason, not a problem at all.

I'm having surgery on my right wrist for carpal tunnel Friday. There's a 6 week recovery time where I'll have little use of that hand (more towards the end). Then, at the end of May I will have the same procedure done to the left.

This compelled me to pick up a true "one hand" knife and will prevent me from using slipjoints for a while.

Good luck with the surgery man, hope all goes well!

for a while. As of late it's been a small SAK (Wegner Highlander) and a tactical (BM 800LH). I'd still like to find a traditional to ride on my left, maybe a swing-guard in place of the AFCK? I don't know.

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to getting it over with.

I have to say that I never carry a slip-joint exclusively.
It's not that I need a locking folder as much as I really love a one-hand pocket-clip folder.
"Tacticals" or one-handers are just too easy to carry and access, open and slice with, and return to the pocket.

But I do usually carry a slip-joint with my one-hander (usually a Victorinox SAK for the screwdrivers and bottle opener).

Good luck,
Allen.

I do. I tried other stuff, but I always liked slipjoints best. I like carbon steel and multiple blades. They work best for me, so I have almost given up on everything else. I still pick something up in a while to try, but I always go back.

I have about 40 knives or so that I have declared as users over the years and I rotate them around fairly evenly. They range from a Small Sebenza to a Normark lockback I bought in the 1980's for $6. At the moment I have a Boker stockman with Delrin scales in my pocket. I tend not carry large folders simply because they are uncomfortable for me. You won't find a 4" bladed tactical linerlock in my pocket. I own a few but don't like carrying them. I would say my carry knives are probably about 60% slipjoints. My collecting knives are probably 90% slipjoints.

sak tinker everyday, but I do feel underknifed sometimes. I remember the first day I only carried a slip. wierd.

I've just recently switched from tacticals to slippies (stockman, SAKS). I hardly miss the tacticals at all.

Sat. I got a '71 Case Grandaddy Barlow in a trade and I've been carrying that in my front left instead of the AFCK. It's not mint but it's got good walk and talk. I think it'll make a great user. I don't feel ill equiped with this beast and a little SAK.

I was carrying slipjoints exclusively for a little while (6 months or so), and occasionally adding a lockback Spyderco into the mix. Recently though, I've been picking up "tactical" folders again. As allenC noted, I like having a one-hand opening folder.

However, I still EDC a SAK Soldier model since it is both people-friendly and a great cutter :)

I go almost exclusively slips. I have a Buck 450 in the glovebox if I need a lockback I can beat on, and a SAK Trekker in the bottom of my bag, but my pocket carry is 100% slip.
