Just starting out (first knife ever)

I have a 4' bar of 3/16" 1084 that I'd be happy to cut in half and send you. I only use stock removal(poorly) and I don't want to blow my Craftsman 2x42 up grinding on it, you're welcome to it. If the shipping is ridiculous I'd expect some help with that. Send me an email if interested.

Thanks for you comment ,I have yet to aquire any known steels do to the tight money issues and if I am not mistaken mild steels are not blade materials. So for the time being I will have to recycle steels from my local scrap yard until later I can purchase my own stock. My intention for this post was not a pity party though and although a few people offered to donate I have yet to receive anything .So it feels as if people my think that I my be trying to take advantage but I assure you this is not the case. But any way I will just do with what I have around me that can be acquired through the scrap yard and local woods that can be harvested around my area.So needless to say I regret posting a little of my life story for people to read. My hope was for people to feel a little like they new it was being put to a good cause. In the beginning I didn't even want to ask for help.I am a man that is hard headed and has a lot of pride in my actions and this was out of the ordinary for me .

Although I did meet a couple good people with a wealth of information and I am sure if I had any questions they would help.So like I said I will be utilizing the stuff that I can get from around me until I am able to get a bar of the good stuff and be able to produce something to be proud of.

Thanks for the interest and you time to post a reply....
Sincerely, Martin Moldovan

Martin,
It has been a few weeks, but I have the box siting in the shop with your address stuck on it. There is sandpaper, files, steel, and some handle blocks. It has been a bit crazy lately, and knife things get pushed back every weekend, but I will try and drop your box (along with several other new guys boxes) off at the PO next week.

Thanks for you not forgetting. I knew you were quite busy though. I am very much humbled by your donations and knowing that the if I am stuck or having some trouble with what ever it may be that I have a friend like you to help guide my way.

Sincerely, Martin

I'm right there with you man, 27 and disabled. Money is tight on my end as well so all I can offer up is what little advice I have in regards to doing this on a very tight budget. I'm basically obsessed with this. All I do is research about this. Stalk the exchange under fixed blade custom knives and study the ones you like. Then draw, draw, draw. When you get started asked questions most of these guys have any answer you could ask. You should consider yourself very fortunate Stacy and others have offered to give you some stuff. Good luck and keep us posted. And most importantly post pictures

Thanks for your comment valknut. I very much appreciate that Stacy has taken his time in helping me and there have been others also that have been helpful. So I have a great deal of thanks for the people that are able to help me get a start. Like you I am infatuated with the artform alday long I search the Web for anything that talks about blacksmithing, Bladesmithing, smelting, casting, you name it I'm looking at it.My wife gets so mad at me but I just canthelpmyself, and to say there is a wealth of nolidge out there as well as the great people here.As stated before valknut I hesitated posting this request and putting my life out there for all to see .The greatest thing is after it is all said and done I have found a few great people to talk with about stuff that I am finding difficult. So again that you for you post.and good luck to you as well.

Sincerely, Martin

Thanks for your push of inspiration and I will be showing my progress. The only thing is I think I am unable to post pictures of my progress. Last time I needed someone to post my sketch for me for some reason. Perhaps it's because I don't have a payed account here but I don't know about that. Either way I will be trying to keep everyone updated as best I can .

Thanks for your time and inspiring words.
Sincerely, Martin at some day M/S Blacksmithing and Blades
