Just the basics of shoelace knot

I was just double knotting my boots with a regular knot...I'm going to do it this way from now on though!

For boots I use a square knot and have never had problems even on longer road marches and the such and tucks in neater then knots with loops. For sneakers and the like just the standard double knotted shoelace knot.

I use the "secure knot" listed above - I've used it for many years, and it holds great, releases just like a standard bow knot.

Several years ago I had some shoelaces that loosened and untied themselves continuously. I didn't have enough laces to double knot the bow or do something like link shows. After some tinkering, I found a method that's very simple and worked very well.

(description is for a right hander) Just like a regular shoelace bow, you start off with the first loop of the bow in your left hand and, with your right hand, make a single wrap and pull the loop through. Instead of making the single wrap around the first loop, make two wraps and pull it through like normal. When you pull the bow, it looks exactly like the finished knot in the picture on the link.

It doesn't take any longer to tie or the dexterity of trying to fish the bow loops through another loop. It also works well when you don't have an excess of shoelaces to tie. The only word of caution is when you pull the loose ends to untie your shoes. Just make sure the free ends have not run back through the bow before you pull or you'll make a very secure, hard to pick out real knot.

Scottish knot for any laces with paracord. Never once has it come undone unless I've wanted it to.

I have used the same knot, found on the same site for over 5 yrs now.... awesome.

Kev....

I tried finding a Scottish knot in the web with no luck... do you have a pic?

I've been using this one for years: http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/turquoiseturtleknot.htm

The only thing is they don't have it quite right. Try tying the initial tie in step 1 with two windings instead of just one as shown. That will hold the strings in place for steps 2 through 7 much better, allowing you to make the knot look perfect.

Never had it come undone no matter what kind of laces were used.
