Just The Tip

I would have used that blade a whole lot more before sending it in for a swap. I love tanto blades, been carrying and using my beloved 912 for the entire month of July. Benchmade does something really good with their heat treat on D2. Today I broke down approximately 300 linear feet of cardboard and the blade was hot to the touch when I would finish a series of cuts. Some only using the tip angle, others using the larger edge. It sliced copy paper cleanly, but could not shave arm hair. I love these blades.:)

I know it's just a matter of personal preference, but why did you decide to go with a blunted nose? Why not trim the edge itself and work up toward the spine, making the whole thing pointier?

I wanted to see what a sheepsfoot would look like on a SAK, I ended up turning it into a tanto so he would have a tip but I don't have any pictures.

It's always a bummer to find old threads like this that don't get an outcome update so figured I should follow up. :)

I held on to the knife and kept using it for a few weeks before finally sending it in. Not having the tip was killing me, as I pierce a lot of plastics and cut nylon netting in the course of a workday; the serrated tanto tip is ideal for my uses. Anyway, the knife shipped Priority on a Saturday, they had it in Oregon and emailed me on Monday, and it was back in my PO Box, all shiny and repaired when I checked in the following Wednesday. About a 10 day turnaround. All cleaned up and with a new blade, springs, etc.

Outstanding service from Benchmade! :thumbup::thumbup:

-and no more numbskull screwdriver shenanigans expected!

Nice to hear Benchmade took good care of you.

I ALWAYS have a SAK or multitool in my pocket or in my backpack. They keep me from damaging my nicer knives, bending the screwdriver on an easily replaced (and affordable) SAK is much better that breaking my Sebenza's tip off.

I like how managed to make use of the blade portion. The bottom half with the handle kinda reminds me of Elvis.

I've junior tanto'd about every tip I've broken. Some of them came out very cool.

IMO you should have gone tanto and angled the thrust slightly on that exactly as it is---in fact the pic makes it look exactly as I'd grind it minus a tad of angle. I like it. :loyal:
