Just thinking about a lock

I was just wondering if anyone has ever made a knife locked by a "ball-detent".

You know, sort of a larger version of the ball detent used to hold liner-lock knives open.

I figure such a design would be close to a standard spring-back knife, i.e. not a true locking knife. An alternative design for "no-lock" areas.

Anyone seen one?

Spyderco ball lock, like the D' Allara

is that what you mean?

No, like a ball-detent.

A ball-detent has a ball that moves into the side of the blade to bias the blade position.

The Spyderco Ball-Bearing lock is a true locking device.

This years IWA, Spyderco has shown a prototype of a "Lock" with two balls holding the blade at both sides.

That was as strong as some slip joint.

Nice knife btw.
