If you are working with any Tool inspect it before use EVERY DAY!

I forgot this and was working on my bench Grinder. I switched wheels on it about a week previous. While I was grinding a blade the Wheel came off hit the ground spinning bounced off the Lawn mower and hit me in the back of my leg. Lets just say I now feel like a moron for not following what my Grand father told me a long time ago.

"ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TOOLS BEFORE YOU START!"

The best thing to do with that wheel is to toss it. Don't take a chance and put it back on cause it could blow up in your face.

Oh thats is what I did. I am now using this as an excuse with my wife to get a KMG. I think I almost have her won over on the idea.

Funny this should come up. I just busted a stone the other day. First one EVER!![in over 25 years!!] Sure does get your attention QUICK! It's easy to get 'comfortable' with things we do every day.

Glad it was'nt more serious for you!!

So am I. just scared the crap out of me. That is the first time that has happened to me. Luckily it hit my lawn mower and not my 56 chevy.

well i have never had a stone explode but i blew a belt on my KMG yesterday. first time that has ever happend to me. scared me so bad i may have peed a little....haha

That goes for 9"disc grinders as well. I had a sheet come off the disc at full speed yesterday, scared the shit out of my dog. Too much pressure, not enough disc cement.

one time at school in woodshop some one was cutting a peace of 1/8 inch wood and it kicked back and to the side like 10 feet missing everyone that was in the shop it got everyones attention in a hurry.

I had a belt snap and that scared me, but not as much as a bike innertube blowing up spontaneously while i was in the garage. I honestly thought someone had shot a .45 in there, it was that loud.

Thanks for the reminder. im going to check all my bolts when i get home tonight.

You would be supprised how many times a Innertube for a bike blows up ( I work for a bike shop ) It still scares the crap out of me!

but now you should know what noise they make right before they snap

Heard that. Now when I hear that sound I don't even try to turn it off....Just Get Out!!!
I had some belts that got left under the deck for a while. I guess they got a little damp. Anyway...they worked fine at first but as soon as you put a little pressure they would start that sound ...Duck and Cover. 5 belts in 10 minuites. I no longer have those belts.
Glad nothing serious. Hope you get that KMG.

I always cringe when I see these posts, They always seem to end with a lines like; " The doctor says I will be able to walk fine without my little toe" or " I had no idea you could live without a spleen" or even worse "one millimeter to the left and Doc said I would have lost the testicle". I read them even though I don't want to, It's the car wreck on the highway phenomena. Thank God you're fine and this incident only harmed your pride.

hehe, have you ever heard/seen a car tire explode? It's about...well I dunno how much exactly...but it's LOUD! And also deadly, has killed many a mechanic. :(

Whenever we are filling up car tires, ther is usually a small pop when the bead seals. Lower profile tires though...they really pop loud. I had to fill up a set of Falkein's to ~90psi to get them to seal (big no-no), and when they did I was deaf for a good minute or so. Blew the glasses right off my face, and I was standing BEHIND the mount machine...jsut incase. Won't be doing that again.

My words of wisdom : "Follow safety instructions, never think you're safe jsut because you've been in the business a while". TECHNICALLY, 40psi is the MAX we are supposed to put in a tire. But that's jsut no fun :p

When I was making one of my first knives a D-2 blade got wedged under the work stop:eek: In a very violent force the knife was ripped out of my hand:eek:  Thrown 25'across the basement and hit the washing machine POINT FIRST:eek:   Raised a nasty burr on the machine.
With my bleading hand I examind the knife. To my surprise there was no mark or damage to the knife:D
Later one of my friends said I was lucky my Wife was not standing at the washing machine because it would have been hard to explain to the police the knife stuck in her back:rolleyes:
I Later Removed the work stop:o
Also nobody stands in line with the Belt grinder when it is running!!!!!

Had a large Fighter blade come off the buffer and into the floor point first. Missed me by _______________________that Much! Keeps you awake in the shop! Mike

When over at IG's this fall, David Schott was pressing down some 1" W2 round stock he had an dwas making some integreals out of when the pin on IG's press broke. It was LOUD and i'm sure that had anyone been standing behind the press where the piece shot, they'd have a nice hole through themselves right now.

When the two halves of hte pin were found, it could be seen that the pin must have been cracked for some time, but due to the location of the crack it wasnt ever visible untill it had failed. Just goes to show that even if you inspect your equipment, you still need to wear safety gear so that when the unexpected happens, you're prepared
