Just too many great knives...

After I got my zt 0566 it was getting ask my pocket time. Then when I got my zt 0550 in, it took over all the pocket time. Just love this knife. My thumb was killing me before it broke in though. Took about two days of opening and closing over and over. After it smoothed out I knew then it was gonna be my new favorite.

I will usually clip my Cold Steel Spartan to my belt if I know I'm gonna be doing something that'll be pretty hard on a knife. That was my previous favorite. That knife is just a beast.

So I don't usually ponder more than a few seconds which knife I want to carry. For the most part it depends on where I'm going or what I'll be doing.

Phhssss.... First world problems.

I've increased my rotation knifes to about half a dozen; some more than others of course.
I feel foolish looking down trying to figure out what knife to grab. Knew I wasn't the only one.

Since I wear jeans or similar pants every day, yesterday's knife is already in my pocket and there is no decision to make. It is there. It's part of me. Change pants and move knives into new pants pockets... repeat.

My method of rotation is to carry one until it starts getting a little dull, then grab the next in line. That way they all get equal love (depending on the steel). My Sundays are called "Sharpening Sundays".

That's a nice method. I usually have pretty light use for them, so it would take a while for me :) I tend to hone them all frequently, too, as soon as they seem to lose their fresh bite. Though if I don't have time for that, I will switch to another EDC until I can do so. I guess in a way I have a similar choice pattern for when I do actually stick with one for a while.

Glad I'm not the only one! Of all the problems to have, I really cannot complain. It's a pretty fortunate issue to have, really. It's going to get both simpler and more difficult in a few days here once I receive my Knifeworks 710. It will take some exclusive pocket time for at least a little while, so it solves my issue for a short term.

I'm sure it will get pocket time till you decide it needs to be reprofiled to have a mirror like edge on it; since the factory edge will no longer cut it. (no pun intended)
Then other knifes get in on the rotation. But then the 710 will be looking at you from a far; shining in the dark.
Then the rotation starts over again; back to the 710....

Vicious cycle if you ask me. One of life's better problems.

Yeah, I imagine it will go something like that. I may curb the issue from the start and polish the edge up, giving me a little longer before I have to switch it out :)

I used to think there were too many great knives, and I had a large collection. These days there's better quality/price options than I think we've seen for a long time now that more big companies are getting into premium steels.

However, over time what's happened for me is that I've just become way more demanding, if a knife isn't near perfect fit for my needs I'll usually sell it. So over the years I've ended up with just a handful of knives I really enjoy that fit me and my cutting needs nearly perfectly. I've had many knives that were most of the way there but all had little issues (ZT 0777, George Talos, Microtech LCC, TAD dauntless, Spartan Akribis, etc.) and were just "ok" as far as fitting all of my carry/cutting needs, ergonomics, fit/finish etc. However, all my knives are users so I don't keep any knives that are not near perfect functionally for my use, so for me collectors value does not enter into it at all.
