I read about JK's EWOK in a thread Rescue Riley posted. I was intrigued by his description and it seemed that the knife might fill a niche for me.
It didn't take long to place an order with JK for one (I think it's only the third one he has made).
But EWOK? Where had I heard that before?
Then it came to me....
Well it turns out that the name EWOK doesn't come from a furry sci-fi forest creature, but is actually an acronym developed by RescueRiley that stands for Essential Work & Outdoors Knife.
It's a pumped up PSK that fits easily into a pocket (the sheath doesn't have any belt loop or clip in order to keep the bulk down). The size is versatile and the handle allows for some different grips--perfect for a 3 finger grip.
I asked JK to add a few thumb notches and I think they work very well to lock the knife in the hand. This little guy is comfortable with gloves as well--a big plus this time of year.
No question it is a cutting machine. I stropped it out, and brought it up to hair popping sharp. I've been using it as an EDC for the past week and it does well at cutting cordage and packaging as you would expect. I've used it peel fruit and veggies. The size makes it comparable to a kitchen paring knife. Very comfortable in the hand.
Thought I'd take it to a stick and it proved itself well. Made curls easily and didn't want to stop. Afterward I tested it with some newspaper cutting, it was still very sharp and cut effortlessly.
The EWOK is an outstanding EDC, comfortable to carry and keep handy. The knife is big enough to handle most any job with the exception of chopping or heavy battoning. It could easily serve as a solo knife needed for a hike or hunt. It's just a righteous companion knife. It isn't in Stomper's current line-up, but I feel pretty certain he'd make one for you if ya asked.
