If it's illegal for a minor to have a knife on them, and it's illegal to sell a minor a knife, is it illegal for a minor to make a knife?????????

Hi L6...

I make it a practice to, Not to sell anyone a blade under 18.
Most kids aren't going to be dropping that kind of cash anyway..
As for cheapo knives I would Card them...

l-6, i'm pretty sure it is legal for a minor to make knives, and as long as his parents keep an eye on the operation, it stays that way. it is illegal to sells knives to a minor. and since it's illegal for a minor to buy them, i'm thinking it wouldn't be a good idea to have them selling them, that's the reason why i don't.

Excellent answer Magnum!! I didn't make that connection as a reason you didn't sell you knives.

I don't think thats a law thats enforced very much. At least not with everday utility or working knives. I haven't ever been asked if I had a parent with me. I've never had trouble buying supplies to make them either.I haven't sold anything yet so I don't know about that.

do they have speed limits out there rob?i heard somewhere that there aren't many. that would be cool if there werent many. matt, you're under 18? i've never been questioned about buying supplies, i don't buy knives any more, just make them.

Magnum,
I'm 16. I don't plan on buying knives any more either other than multi tools. I have to have one of those for baling hay and straw and I don't plan on even trying to make one?
I think that montana actually does have a speed limit0 Its something like go whatevers reasonable for the road your on.So you could get pulled over for doing 100+. They just don't enforce it.

Rob, there is a federal (Iknow, what a load of crap) law that prohibits knife sales to minors.

George Herron (the LEGEND himself) has taught
young kids how to make knives. I have seen blades by one kid who was under 14 years old and they were fantastic.

Teaching a kid how to do this will benefit everyone involved. It makes you feel better about yourself and it hopefully keeps that kid out of trouble.

Doesn't someone teach boy scouts how to make knives and lets them actually make one in the classes?? Guess I'm blessed not to have a kid. They would be packing a folder with em from kindergarten on.I sure wish this country could retrieve some of it's past, like it was in the 50's and 60's. Not all of it mind you, just the good parts. Where a school kid always carried a pocket knife and never even thought of using it as a weapon.

Is that a fedaral law? ive never had any problem purchasing knives here in NM (and ive bought quite a few), im 17 by the way, i have sold knives (only 2 though) and havn't had any trouble. If that is true ill have to agree what a load of crap.

Where is it illegal to sell a knife to a minor? There is no such federal law in the US, though there could be in the Federal Republic of Germany or one of the other federal countries for all I know (I doubt it).

There are many stores in the US that won't sell a knife to a kid without an adult with him because they're tired of mothers coming around and yelling at them ... some of them might think they'll get less hassle from kids if they tell them there's a law, or just let them assume there's a law ... in some jurisdiction somewhere there might actually be a law; all I can say is I don't know of one.

Cougar, I can't quote you the stautute, but I went to the courthouse to check up on switchblade laws and read every knife law on the books. There is a federal law that prohibits knife sales to minors. Next time I'm near the court house, I'll get a copy of it and post it.

There are switchblade laws, but I was not aware of a federal law against all knife sales to minors. If there is one, it must be one of the most broken laws in the country, since it means any kid who buys his mom a paring knife is breaking it.

Can anyone nail down this issue? I'd really like to know the specific federal law which applies to this.

It's conceivable Congress might have passed such a law, but not that the FBI or any of the alphabet soup of federal agencies would have the slightest interest in trying to enforce it.
