Just wondering...

Selling or trading they ones you wound up not liking is a smart move.

Not every knife has to be a user, but I think the expensive ones should be. (Just my feeling) .

Think carefully about how many users you want to end up with. Think how you are improving your collection with each purchase. Don't be afraid to trade for something you want for one you thought would be a user but isn't.

You could also take up a hobby that would USE your knives more: camping, hunting, whittling, fishing.

In my collection, I like to have a variety of knives and multi-tools. With multi tools, it's easier to justify different ones, since they're are so many different tool loads.

Its much easier to get a knife from the mailbox than having a fishing pole sitting on my doorstep and keeps the wifes questioning at a minimum. I have a wooden box where I store my folders amd a toolbag for the fixed blades. Very addictive personality but its better than p****** it down the toilet. I usually have one I take to work everyday. On the weekend I switch it up, and out fishing I take a couple and a multi-tool for removing hooks, bleeding fish out, and making live bait a little more potent.

Interesting replies....and about what I was expecting. At least this is an active forum. So is there anybody else that gets off on the thrill of the chase, and the acquisition, but then gets immediately bored as soon as it's in your possession?

Well, that's one part of it. But I've also have multiple collections of various brands and models, although ALL of those are gone now. After several hundred, I'm down to perhaps 30-40 folders and fixed blades...
They come and they go...it's all part of the obsession. With any luck, your blood will cool down before you go broke.
It's cheaper than collecting sports cars or horse racing...

The good thing is even if you try to hoard knives they don’t take up much room relatively speaking.

Well I bought up quite a few knives then realized rotating them all left my favorites out of my pocket too often. So I sold most of my moderns and kept 4. Have many more traditionals than moderns but they’re more fun to rotate through due to the different patterns. Looking to add a 5th modern folder whenever the Spyderco Smock comes out. Having more than that it’s hard to rotate through them all unless you love them.
