Justifying an FSH.

Handle mods are worth the money IMO. You can go from hating the feel/look of a blade to loving it for only $45 to $85 depending on size.

ETA Get a HH or Std if you get a FSH. I had a HOG FSH and it was too thick IMO.

The handle mod I'm asking for is a bit more than $85, but it's for both aesthetic AND functional reasons ;)

The FSH is a good 'un but if you're looking to fill the "big knife" slot in your kit and the options are FFBM or FSH, my money's on the Mistress!

I guess I do not understand what benefit the FSH will give you over the NMSFNO for your given usage besides adding chopping weight. I would be more tempted to looks at a Camp Tramp or a Son of Dogfather as they will likely be nicer to hike / carrry and the Res-C handle will absorb more of the impact and likely be more comfortable over the long term. Since this is the Buss forum I guess we should switch that to a Basic 7.

What if you had to beat on the butt of the knife to drive it into something for some reason? Would the Res-C handle stand up to the pounding?

I wouldn't casually do it to one of my knives, the tang can poke through the butt.

if you are going to get a FSH, go all out and get a good one, like a HOGFSH

That's what I was thinking also, but with the Busse I'd think you'd be just fine. The Busse knives were made to take a beating and come back for more.

The knife would be fine... perfectly usable I'm sure.

Given that you have...
NMFBM, a CG ASH-1, an NMSFNO and I ordered the Boss street.
...you will get much better coverage of blade sizes by adding the CGFBM over the FSH. The NMSFNO is almost the same size as the FSH.

I just laid out the Boss + ASH + NMSFNO + CGFBM + NMFBM and it is VERY NICE!

Amending my recommendation since the BWM is an option. Since you already have the NMFBM I would probably pick the BWM over the CGFBM just because you have your big chopper covered and the BWM will give you more variety.

What would be the advantage of having the FSH / HOGFSH over the FFBM / CGFBM?
I believe the extra 2 inches would only benefit you considering they are both too large to conceal and are probably going to be used for the same tasks anyway. (chopping etc.)
I love my NMSFNO, and it can handle any job I throw its way, but I love chopping objects that most people wouldn't attempt to chop and I think the FFBM / CGFBM would be perfect for just that purpose.

Also in addition to this.^^^ Theres prob minimal relative weight difference between a NMFBM and a CGFBM or FFBM. So the point is. Why would you need a FBM and a NMFBM? or an eight inch knife when you have an ash-1 and a NMFBM. they cover everything. its not like you can do bush craft with an eight incher.

The FSH isnt light enough to really justify long hikes. so either only bring the Ash-1 or so just bring the NMFBM...we've seen pics of you. you're a big dude!....it will chop better, split better, and dig fire pits better than the FBM and FSH and NMSFNO. you have a NMFBM, ASh-1 and a boss street. you have every category already covered.

if you are gonna get another knife get a knife for long distance hiking that is a good balance of length and and weight. BWM or SAR 8 or DOG Father, or something like that

Man, get what you wish. :D
we can talk what we want, but if you're getting the bug, nothing helps...:p
Truth to be told, somehow the only knife what haven't "called me" yet is the FSH...dunno why. maybe because it's in between-size, or what...
Anyway, as for the CGFBM and the BWM....I think those two are must have's.
I feel, that the CGFBM could do anything. I even filleted a fish with it...:o
and it's a classic. as the FSH...:)

...get what you want(and could), and see for yourself. you can always sell it.
