K20 heat treat is working

This is good news

Matt, if you took a K20, put a presentable finish on it along with your signature carbon fiber handle/saya, it would be worth at least that. (a lot of work though...)

Thanks, bud, but that ‘signature‘ is just as much Dan’s as it is mine. Both he and David Mirabile are big influences. I don’t think either Dan or Nate would appreciate my footprint on their work, here.

I’d love to try my hand at a sword, but can’t heat treat anything that large. The one instance I tried a professional heat treater with something like this, they blew it - not once, but twice. The mistake hangs from the shop ceiling to remind me that I can’t rely on anyone else to assist me in this adventure.

I was mostly kidding but of course I'd love to see your take on a sword.

(I screwed up the photo links and will try to fix things in a bit). Matt posted below, with additional information.👍

I’m a bit late to the party and it seems that the conversation has taken a change in direction, but here is a fine example of Matt’s carbon fiber work. This was a collaborative effort with Ben Seward. Matt’s carbon fiber saya, carbon fiber guard, carbon fiber handle under wrap and carbon fiber wrap. Not to mention a nice sageo. and magnetic retention.

I’ve got to run, but if there are any questions, I’ll be back later. Mike

Not sure why the links I sent to you didn’t work, but that’s typical, bud. Here they are:

It was a cool project. Ben showed up at my house with his family in tow, so I could show him how to lace handles. If you want to read about it, I originally posted it HERE

Is it a fair reading that any sheath will need to be made to fit each finished sword because they have minor shape differences after heat treating?

In an ideal world, yes probably

In reality, if a sheathmaker is sent a blade that is toward the middle of the range, I expect the outliers might work okay also. I will look into this and give more information once I know.
