Gang- Is anyone a fan of this classic German folding knife, the K55K Cat Folder? My brother loves his. Maybe someone can post a pic please. It's a great design.
If this knife was upgraded a tad, I might consider one.

I had a few vintage and modern K55 knives. The modern knives can be found with carbon or stainless. They're an old pattern and I don't think that they'll be upgraded. They're simple knives and inexpensive.

Here's a photo of a vintage example with a few bells and whistles. The modern knives are single blades.

I recently picked one up. I was very surprised at how sturdily constructed the knife is. I haven't sharpened it yet or done much with it, because of the thinness of the handle I would imagine you'd develop some hotspots in the hand. But that thinness makes it surprisingly easy to carry.

I actually had one of those back in the 50's. They were in a bin at the local surplus store for .99 cents apiece. The red spacer was made out of wood back then, and the carbon blade was pretty decent steel. Took a very good edge and kept it for a good time. Them and the .75 cent TL-29's that still had cosmoline on them were a grew buy for a knock around knife. I can't say how good the modern ones are, but they are probably as good as a Douk-Douk. Same class of knife. Really old design.

It's a great knife for general purpose, since I bought mine I keep it around with my Opinel for various chores.

Thanks everyone!
I see they offer a Red one too. Also Blue. I'll see if I can find out who sells them.

This is one of my favorite folders, and in my opinion, vastly underated.

I put a thumbstud and an eClipse on the all black (no number or cat logo) version, and the result is an incredibly sleek knife with 1095 steel that takes a great edge.

There is also a website in France that carries a full line, including the plain one I just mentioned, stainless vs. carbon, dfifferent handle colors, and a smaller version.

Thanks! I'd like to see a pic of your Cat.
Are there any US dealers selling the Red?

I have one. Also a perfect clone made in Japan years ago???? I do prefer the douk douk though, but it's a great knife.

Cool! ^
A good friend here on BF, is going to send me one from Europe!! How cool is that?! Thanks Good Friend!! :)

The Cat, and an Opinel were the first two knives I purchased a few years ago. They jump started me into a whirlwind of knife addiction,Spyderco's Benchmades and many others, even CRK's. If I had stayed with the Cat only, and not looked any further, truthfully, this would be all I really needed. Great knife!

dc- I totally can relate! After all the different folders I have purchased over the years, I'm EDCing a AGR Cowboy slippie!
Crazy!!
