Ka-Bar/Becker Quality, Take 2

i own the 1214, and i can say its great. used it camping, general tasks. I also own the ka-bar mule folder, and its been the best folder ive ever owned. big heavy made tough, and after all its carving and camp cooking, still sharp as the day it came. VERY SHARP. I now own a bk7 and it went through three trees about 4 in thick with no problem at all, and the coating was totally undamaged! although now its stripped haha. Ka-Ba and the bk line have my business for life, and i would trust my life to the ones i own.

I recently purchased a Ka-Bar USMC Fighting Knife, model 1217, not as a user but just because my wife's father (a Marine) carried one something like it in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. I just wanted a representative example to add to my collection. Then I happened on the Becker line and purchased a BK9 which I'm sure will get some use around the place and on camping trips. They both seem like pretty nice pieces to me, but then I never use any knife often enough or hard enough to make a real evaluation on my own.

On the sub forum that I frequent the most, there are two regulars who really bashed Ka-Bar, saying that they produce nothing but junk now.

All I'd like to know is how the majority really feel about the Ka-Bar's, in particular the "fighting knives" such as the 1217. Are they as good as ever or have they been downgraded?

I honestly don't know about the fighting knives. I have one of the Camillus versions, but not a Ka-Bar. However, I own a number of Ka-Bars and can tell you they are far from junk.

I own and use a couple of their folders--namely a MULE and a PhatBob (D2 version). Both are solid. I also have one of their slipjoints (made by Canal Street), and it is top notch.
In the fixed blade arena, I can't say enough good things about Toooj's line of choppers. I have the Grass Machete and the Cutlass, and while I use the machete more often, both knives are good performers.

to say one thing of kabar - Becker knives . I trust my BK2 completely in that I know it won't fail me when I need it

I've never had a problem with any of my Becker's or Ka-Bars in general and I beat on em a lot more than any of my other knives because I trust that they can take it, additionally any problem I've seen anyone else have was either gladly fixed by Ka-Bar or they where really REALLY trying to push the knife to the limits of what any knife could do. I kind of see them as the Glock of the knife world, they'll run forever even if you just kinda take care of them and they're fairly priced.
