Ka Bar BK16 or Survive! 4.1?

The reality is that in a knife this size you won't see much a difference between the bk16 and gso4.1
Concerning edge holding: you will only see a marked difference if you cut alot if abrasive material such as cardboard... But who cuts cardboard in the forest ?
Concerning toughness: this will only come to play with large blades such as choppers

I had both so I tested both

I agree with RR. Both are very good knives. From a purely functional/cost ratio I doubt the performance delta will equal the price delta - value goes to becker; no surprise there. That said, value is not the only criteria used in evaluating a knife purchase - especially for us Knife Knuts!

Truth be told, I am a Becker fan but you would be hard to go wrong with either so I must advance the BF party line here and say the expected GET BOTH!

For what it's worth, Ethan is an outdoorsman who knows knives and if he's got pants on and his feet are on dirt - he's usually toting a 16; he may have others (Necker, SAK, etc.) but he'll hardly be without a 16.

I'm feeling so enlightened right now that I think I can make a knife myself.(Wishful thinking:D) Thank you Bobby3326, Kingmc and Choral.Grolin. And Mec003, in no way I'm gonna think that way about the bk16 because it is as it is very surely going to be my first fixed blade. As a newbie, I've lot to learn and understand before I can reach the level you guys are at and using the bk16 to begin with seems a pretty good start. I'll surely go for the Survive! models in the future when I have more experience with different steels and blade geometries and other things that you guys know so much about. You guys are Contagious man and I'm loving it. I'm getting a very strong feeling that this knife-virus that I'm infected with is going to be passed on to my grandchildren. I'm very delighted that you guys so willing share your knowledge about knives. I'm sure this was the reason this forum was started is the first place. I'm equally thankful and envious of the 'ONE' who first came up with that idea. Thank you again guys.
Regards,
David

Salty: Gotcha and BK16 it is for me for the start. Chiral.Grolin:I've read a lot about Nathan the machinst and his field knife. Survive! collaborating with him sounds music to my years. Looking forward to it.
