KA-Bar Camp Knife 1246

I have one with leather, good knife but only used it for a couple camping trips before I went all khukuri for a while afterwards.

Really good sheath and blade has a nice grind and chopping sweetspot.

Was a little scared to use it real hard due to the stick tang, does anyone know if the tang is thicker on it or identical to the 1217?

The 45$ canadian on stock discount I paid looks like a really good deal now!!!

Just found mine. I bought a few kabar when I first started getting into knives. I have this one and the big wart hog. Both are pretty nice. Since these I've moved on to other customs and busse and such. I'll have to get out the old kabar and get some reps in with it

This is the one were talking about right? There is just something about Kabars 1095 that gets super sharp relatively easy

Just picked on of these up and it's on it's way to me as we speak. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

The big question............... to strip or not strip the blade? I have stripped my BK2, BK5 and BK 15 but I'm not sure about this one. Might leave it be. But damn, NCSlice's 1246 sure it beautiful. Not sure I want to mess with the pommel and guard and it might look funny with just the blade stripped.

I only stripped mine because apparently there was something in the stock kydex(?) Sheath that scratched the crap out of it and it drove me crazy...

Thanks for the compliment!
I'd love to have the leather sheath, the plastic ones kinda lame. I've considered a catch and release just to get one heh.

Not 100% sure the exact condition of the leather sheath coming with mine but interested in a swap? I'll have it in a few days and can post photos. Truth be told, I would rather have the kydex.

Yeah, I'd be interested. Just lemme know what you think when you get it then I'll post some pics.

Received the 1246 yesterday. Pretty good shape but the pommel is a little off. Tilted a bit one way. Solid as a rock so I'm guessing this might have been a manufacturing defect? Barely noticeable so I'm not concerned. Knife looks like it's been used a little bit but still in excellent condition. It's a welcomed addition my Ka-Bar line up. Since it's not mint, it's going to get used.

The sheath is not mint by any means. It's 100% in terms or structural integrity but shows some wear and tear.

NCSlice, if you want to swap sheathslet me know. I'm fine either way. Just looking to help you out if you want it. I know it's got some wear and completely understand it you don't want it.

Congrats on the new steel!
That works for me...I'll post pics tomorrow... It's not exactly like new either, so, you be the judge...
Same thing, won't hurt my feelings if ya don't like it.

That blade looks great. Hows the pommel tilted? Doesn't show in the pics

I good with swapping. Send me your info and I'll see if I can get it out this weekend. Just hold off on sending your sheath back until you get mine to make sure you still want it after inspection. I'm in no rush.

In regard to the pommel on mine, I'll try and post a pic later. If you hold the knife in front of you point up, the right side of the pommel is tilted downward maybe a 1/16th of an inch? There is some brassing and slight impression on the base so I'm thinking the previous owner either bent it using it to hammer or it came that way and he tried to bend it back. It's tight and secure so I'm just gonna leave it as is. I don't want to try and bend it back and loosen it. I'm not going to sell the knife so I could care less.

I'll post the sheath since it applies to the thread.

I bought this pre-loved and came with this modified stock sheath.

I think it had a nylon loop originally but it was gone when I received it.

This is the only issue. A very small crack just on the edge. Once again, it was there, not sure if its from stress or an incident. The screw and eyelets seem to have stopped any progression and doesn't affect the function in any way...

I added the paracord. There's a slight rattle inside but doesn't bother me. It still allows for belt carry without the nylon.

Thanks for looking!

Looks good to me.

Just wanted to thank NCSlice for trading sheaths. Love the Kydex sheath and plan to mod it up a little bit in the future before summer when the 1246 should get some heavy use.

I just took mine out back to practice building a fire. I have a bunch of really expensive knives and if I needed a knife for a camp / backpacking trip, I wouldn't hesitate at all with the kabar camp knife. Scary sharp and great geometry and more than enough blade for most chores.

It's knives like this one that make me rethink how much money I could save by dumping my busse combat knives (except for the swamp rat tomahawk ).
