Ka bar Dozier anyone?

At this price and positive reviews I plan on getting each color all for price of a spydie or bm. Lol. I’ve began to appreciate and gravitate towards cheaper budget blades as I continue my knife addiction journey. And that’s after having xm18’s, sebenzas and other expensive options. Something so usable about a cheap option with 0 worries.

I'm with you on this. I'm going to be picking up a Schrade SCHF42 as detailed on other threads in this forum by the designer of the knife. It's between $30 and $40 just about everywhere on the web. I'm also scouting around for a Coast F402 for around $20 or so. The key is to check the specs- more than just price, you want a decent steel, and also look at the various reviews for the knife you're considering. And not to sound xenophobic, but I prefer Taiwanese knives to
Chinese, at least for the budget blades. It's fun searching out a good bargain, and a bit more challenging than just plopping down big bucks for a knife, no questions asked.

One of the best edcs. Liked it so much I bought one for my father in law and before that I bought two real doziers. Turns out I didn't like the real ones as much lol. The knife hobby is weird like that.

So what didn’t ya like about the real Dozier? Cause I was starting to salivate over wanting to try one as I’ve never had a custom.

First off let me just say Dozier is one of favorite knife makers. That said I think I went through Ti framelock fatigue/withdrawal. It all started with a quest for "Sebenza" killers. That brought me to the Sage, ti milli, BM 750 Pinnacle, Sub Rosa the list goes on...like 3 different Sebenzas. Ultimately the Dozier framelock was awesome but I just am not into knives with metal handles.

Try out the AGRussell tablock if you want to get an idea of what the framelock feels like. The other thing I realized is that custom knives didn't make me feel any better than the less expensive ones. Squarely in the production knives for me. Although if i could find a steal of a Dozier fixed blade I'd jump at it no quedtion he has this fat handle design on his fixies that really do it for me.

I like less expensive knives for the most part. Anything over a hundred dollars I don't look at much. I want another griptillian and a manix 2 but other than those the knives I gravitate to are 50 dollars and less. That knife is one I've never seen a negative review of , much like the rat 2. A good function tool that doesn't so much you are afraid to use it is what appeals to me. I think those will be good knives to gift

I just received mine from morvlorv gaw and I must say I’m impressed so far.

Well just got it this morning, and I’ll say it’s way more solid than I anticipated for mostly frn. It’s the absolute perfect size for edc! Wasn’t very sharp but that’s an easy fix. The only thing I’d change is how high it carries, love me some deep carry. Any ideas on something deep carry that might work?

The Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter is my favorite budget knife. The design is not only beautiful but practical. The handle feels great in any grip with no hot spots. The high hollow grind and relatively thin edge makes for a great cutting performance. The lock is reliable, easy to manipulate, and when it engages, the sound and feel is very satisfying. I have a few of them and have given a few as gifts. It is truly an under appreciated model that more people should know about.

Great filework!

;) Haha......

How do these compare to the rat 1 and avispa folders? I would like to give one a whirl.

Dude that looks like a Phat Bob Dozier. I actually mod ALL of my Kabar Doziers in an attempt to make them look like that blade shape.
I had mine modded with fat ebony scales. I much prefer the thickness over the stock scales. The friend who did it calls it the Clam Knife. I agree. It's an odd blade shape and I tend not to use it very much.

I don't know anything about avispa but the Ka-Bar Dozier is smaller and much lighter than the RAT-1. It's slendeer as well. Great knife, great value IMO.
