I was curious if the Ka-Bar Dozier KBD1 Black Fighter would make a good defensive knife aka fighting knife. It is a fixed blade knife with a 7" blade that copies one of Bob Doziers desings. It would be replacing my Blackjack knife which is similar to the Randall #1 fighter.as my EDC fixed blade.

Heya, can't say too much about this 'cause I don't have one in my little hands, but I just ordered one. I did a lot of research on all the stuff out there and decided that for my needs it looks like the best bet in its price range and size.

I considered the USMC, the heavy bowe, the Nighhawk, CS stuff etc. Seems like the best all-round survival blade in that it is cheap, US made, comes from a long tradition of tough Ka-bars, and to me makes a real decent compromise between utililty and SD, in that with the Dozier spear point, it should penetrate like a dagger w/o sacrificing cutting ability. I also like that it is quite unassuming looking and less likely to frighten the sheeple or LEO's if found with it going to or returning from the bush.

It also looks like removing the handle and replacing it with stag or leather would be quite easy, should I decide to go that route. Years ago I had an old Ka-bar and it was tough. Only thing I didn't like about it was the recurved clip, and this knife fixes that.

Hope you report back if you get one.

Luck.

Cool. I will look forward to your impressions. Mayap some other owner of this steel will chime in.

I will post my impression once I have it in my hands. I would like to hear your opinion as well when you get yours. It would be nice though if someone who has this knife already would give their two cents.

I was hoping you would ask that... I LOVE EM. VERY Sharp and never rust, mind you I live less than a mile from the beach and have inlet canals running near my house. Other knives i have rust as i leave my windows open to cool my room, but not my ka-bars. Good knives for great pices if you shop around

I've had my hands on a few Ka-Bars and I'm really confused as to how the produce such good quality knives for so little price.

I have a mule, great hard working folder and I abused the 1277 heavy bowie (mate bought one through me) and that took a pounding and only a few strokes on a diamond hone to razor resharpen it.

Great Price, great knives

If'n you ask me, the question ought to be how come so many other knives cost so much?

Methinks there is an awful lot of hype and marketing involved, counting on consumers who want the next big thing.

Take some good carbon steel, profile or forge it properly, heat treat it right and you got yourself a good tool. Ka-bars and the like are never going to be a fashion statement, but like a good old Winchester '94, you can count on them to get the job done just as well or better than the latest greatest.

I own numerous KaBars, folders and fixed blades. I would have to say they are some of the best bargains on the market today.

The link provided is part of the Shot Show review. KaBars website probably won' t show a new model unless it becomes available to the public thru its distributors/ dealers.
