Ka-Bar Dozier KBD1 Black Fighter?

I held one and did not like the overall feel of it. For the record, I like Doziers knives, and have owned some nice KaBars. I really wanted to pick up the KBD1, but it was not for me.

I'd be curious to know how the pommel is attached to the tang. Is it a screw-in tang, or is the pommel attached in the same way as the USMC utility knife (i.e., the rectangular tang is inserted into a rectangular slot that goes all the way through the pommel, and a pin is then put through both pommel and tang, holding everything together)?

If it's a screw-in tang like on the near-equivalent Ontario fighter, I'd worry about the strength of the tang where it's narrowed down to take threads for screwing into the pommel. I had an Ontario fighter tang snap at precisely that point, under fairly light use, and I've got to believe that that would be a weak point in any knife that was designed that way--it just has to concentrate a huge amount of force and leverage on a very small section of steel.

Can anyone here tell us how the Ka-Bar fighter pommel is attached? It looks like an interesting knife, if sturdy enough.

Ok, I got one of these in the mail today. From first impressions it looks like just what I wanted. A stout, no-nonsense, US made, high carbon utility-fighter. So far, I can't see what else a feller could need in a knife in this class. I know you could get a lot prettier, you could spend a lot more, but if you want what the original Ka-bar was designed for with a better geometry for thrusting and a grippier haft, here ya go.

And, yes, the pommel is fitted over the retangular tang and pinned. Whole thing seems tight as a ---:D.

And, although I don't go for kydex and all that as a rule, the sheath that comes with the blade is very well done.

I wouldn't hestitate to recommend this as a "survival" tool to anyone.

I was curious if the Ka-Bar Dozier KBD1 Black Fighter would make a good defensive knife aka fighting knife. It is a fixed blade knife with a 7" blade that copies one of Bob Doziers desings. It would be replacing my Blackjack knife which is similar to the Randall #1 fighter.as my EDC fixed blade.

I just purchased one of these knives.
It is a very large knife for EDC.
I guess things are relative to peoples perceptions but I am not sure if I agree with Elpaso about being unassuming.
It looks like it means business and the blade is wide and long and sharp.
Reminds me of that Crocodile Dundee movie, "Thats not a knife, this is a KNIFE"
Quality USA build and for the price $40 US a bargain.
