hey there guys,
i liked some info/review of the ka-bar fighting knife.any model is good.
it's not expensive, and i was wondering if it is any good.
ka-bar has a history,but i never owned a knife of the brand
thanks for whatever info you can get me

k-bar for the money are damn fine knives. I suggest the impact series and chang the scales on it to some thing like wood or micarta but you just can't beat the steel and blade for the $$. IMHO.

i have cold steel uwk knife,is it comparible to that?
because the ka-bar is way cheaper

Just got mine, going to be doing a test this weekand along side a buck 119, watch the wilderness & survival skills section.

well i have had a $120 kabar fighter in D2 it's a nice knife, except the butt pin fell out quite a few times in heavy use. I had the kabar mule which slipped out of its lock all the time. So for me, my kabar use has been disappointing, but those are only two models, i'm sure they have some nice ones out there.

Pick up one of these:

It's an absolute classic, inexpensive, durable, and proven over the years by our soldiers. What more can you ask for?

Kabar offers lots of quality for the money, you won't regret it.

If you're looking for more chopping power though, get one of the Kabar Heavy Bowies. I've heard nothing but praise for those as well.

ludwig, thats exactly the model i'm going to buy.
im going to sell my cs uwk,and buy one of these.
its both plain carbon steel, and i like that model much better.
a heavy but at the end,i suppose you can hit with that too
nice :D

Go to www.knifetests.com
there is a "must see" test of Ka Bar

Yes. Take a look at the videos of Cold Steel Tanto tests (same site).

It performs quite well and i think that it is cheaper. (I'm sort of neutral here. Ka bar is not the knife style i like and i don't really like Cold steel company, i think they are too "loud" at advertizing their products)

And do not believe to the company history. Listen to users and if you can...try it:-)

I have 9 ka-bar knives and have used them all.I love my classic U.S.M.C. Ka-bar.I carried it for a long time as my bushcraft knife.I upgraded to the D2 extreme for a while and loved it even more.I also have a Camillus marine combat knife that's virtually the same as the Ka-bar.If you really want a knife you can abuse try the Impact D2 fighter.1 piece of D2 steel with micarta slab handles.Great knife.

You're carrying around a 7 inch fixed blade for self-defense

That's nuts!

And to improve usability, remove upper hand guard like this:

I bought my Ka-Bar a few months ago factory new. There was no edge to speak of so I had to do a complete resharpening job. Now the knife is really sharp.

That's nicely done sasu

I've been thinking about doing the same work on my Kabar, did you just saw off that piece and sand it down?
