ka-bar fighting knife

I own a bunch of Ka-Bars and they are great knives for the price.

Ka-Bar love

I have ka-1211(Like USMC, but kraton handle and black leather sheat) and i have liked it much. Nice thick blade and good weight.

Black coating takes damage little too easy. There are some small scratches in it even though knife hasn't been used(them are propably made by sheat). Scratches are only in surfase and metal is still protected by coating.
Little thing ,but quite annoing in new knife(Less than month old).

This ka-bar is my first "better" knife btw.

The 4th on the right are what Kabar calls the "Ka-Bar Fighter" I think 1271 is the model number IIRC. The 5th on the right is a "Ka-Bar Next Generation Fighter" and they have been discontinued for a few years.

The original KaBars were made to a bid spec during wartime - they were never intended to be 'fine cutlery'. Think of them as a tool - like the entrenching tool. When used, they would work well - whether bashing a skull with the butt or chopping small trees. A steady life of both would not be long - but more were available. Other tools are better for some applications, the old KaBar is fairly good for many. I still have my Dad's WWII - and several recent ones. They are 'classics' - but the best all-around 'house' and/or 'camp' knife? That's an individual call.

I have the Next Generation Fighter (like yours( 5th on the right). Great Knife! Sad to hear they discontinued it. I've been itchin' to buy the black carbon steel version too!

hey there guys,
i liked some info/review of the ka-bar fighting knife.any model is good.
it's not expensive, and i was wondering if it is any good.
ka-bar has a history,but i never owned a knife of the brand
thanks for whatever info you can get me

I have several Ka-Bars.
This is the closest I have to a "fighting knife" KBD1 about $40 bucks on Ebay if you are patient.
Bob Dozier design, its quite a large knife with a 7 inch blade and pretty deep blade

Below is my Modern USMC Kabar next to an original WWII (verified) USN MK2 kabar, made by Kabar. See the squared fuller? Never seen that before.

You see it more often on some 19th C swords than you do on knives; it's called a "stopped" (or sometimes "full stopped") fuller.

I wish KA-BAR would make a model with the newer type finger guard and pommel with the 1095 carbon blade,or at least make the d2 model with out serrations.but I do like my traditional KA-bar very much.

thats not good, that it wasn't sharp.anyone got that too with the usmc?

When I got mine, I could shave a bald spot on my arm with one sweep with the factory edge. I can't speak for everyone. But, mine had the sharpest factory edge I've ever seen.
