i was wondering about the line of ka bar knives. are they made and manufactured by Ka Bar or are they made by some cheap chinese company and just using the Ka Bar title? i saw a clawed or tilted blade that is meant to be carried like a gun... does anyone know what i am talking about? i was just wondering about this style and the quality of these blades. i know the US military has issued them in the past and they have proven themselves amongst military servicemen, but i was wondering about these few things in particular. do any of you own them or carry them?

The weapon you're referring to sounds like a Karambit. I don't own one, nor have I ever used one, but a lot of people like 'em. Not sure about the Ka-Bars either. I own a ton of 'em, but they're all vintage, nothing recent.

Yes Ka-Bar makes kinves like thoes. You can look at them on http://www.kabar.com Infact there on the front page. Those Ka-Bars are manufactured in Olean N.Y. just like all the others. I recently bought a "D2 Extreme" and I like it very much. I was thinking of purchising one of these knives you refer to. Have a nice day :)

Actualy, some of their little knives, likthe TDI and hunting knives, are made in Taiwan. Its not realy a big deal though. The quality controll is still very good.

KaBars are good inexpensive knives. You can certainly do much worse. :)

i like the way they look and can see how they would be a good tool/weapon for a "last option" for a police officer should he get into something with a suspect that was going for his gun...

I carry a TDI on a semi regular basis both in town and in the woods. IMHO it is a great utility blade for just about anything especially in the woods ie. making fuzz sticks, trap triggers, etc..

custom, do you carry it in the sheath that came with it? what about upgrading and getting a better sheath??? one of my good friends that knows lots about knives reccommended i get a better sheath for it.. i love this blade though

currently, I carry it in the factory sheath on my belt or threaded onto webbing on my left hand pack strap. some day I will get some kydex equipment and start experimenting, but for now I just use the factory sheaths....sometimes I mod them a bit though :D . I hear Normark does some good things with Kydex, along with some others, but the only aftermarket kydex I own right now is from Mr. Hummelbaugh at www.survivalsheath.com , and it's a work of art. Chest rig for fallkniven F1.

Hey Guys..

Thanks much...

Yaa the TDI is a Great little knife..

Here is the sheath I make for the TDI...

I need information regarding a KA-BAR Boy Scout Knife. What is the age and collector value as well as likely point of sale?

This knife has 3 1/2 inch blade and I made by Union Cut Co. Olean, NY.

Thank you very much,

Bob Peak

The Marine type knives are still made in the USA. However, Kabar has outsourced some of their folders to Europe, and Asia. Also, some of their traditional hunting knives, such as a the 1226, that were formerly made in Japan are nmow Taiwanese made.

i love my Ka Bar. but not as much as my spyderco manix. no not even close!

Careful Mesh - don't get too close to that Manix...I've seen this before: Guy meets Manix and falls in love...Guy takes things too fast and Manix freaks out, wondering why she always attracts the overbearing guys... Guy doesn't take no for an answer and one night shows up in a drunken stupor to proclaim his love, but Manix has had enough. A few pints of blood and a 911 call later, Guy is lying on a gurney wondering why he just didn't leave well enough alone...it's a vicious cycle man.

I carry a Ka Bar newer style (one piece) hobo knife in my left pocket almost all the time. Hey you gotta eat! :)
