I apologize for the whole bunch of threads on kukuris. Most of the threads I have seen are either about HI or CS kukuris. From my research online I am interested in the Ka bar Kukuri, however, I have not seen much about this on blade forums (I saw one thread comparing it to a cheap CS). How do these compare to HI considering the Ka bar are only about $40. I am interested in getting one primarily for chopping and splitting woods, and just because having a big knife is cool:). (I do not ever carry an axe on camping trips. This would be my primary big cutting tool). Thanks for the opinions.

There is no comparison to a HI khuk. The only thing shared is the blade shape.

My CS khuk is probably similar to the Kabar. It is probably decent for the price but not even close to being in the same league as a HI.

while the Kabar Kukri is not in the same league as a HI kukri or House of khukuri and therefor should'nt be compared to such blades, it is an excellent knife/chopper/slicer. A careful honing and stropping prior to deployment and you will be very happy with it. Very comfortable handle, tough blade, easy to sharpen, snicks thru limbs quickly and cleanly. (and by limbs i mean trees and overgrowth, not human limbs... ;)

love mine.

An HI kukri will cut one of those in half.
My advice would be to look on the HI forum and get a deal of the day. They often aren't much more than $100, and are well worth it.
