Recommendation? Ka-bar pen knife

It appears to have a crack that goes halfway across...from what I can see....to me that would mean its going to get worse the more its opened and closed....There are Craftsmen on the Porch who may be able to breathe new life into your heirloom ....new spring and new scales....IMHO your Great Grandma would be pleased with the whole idea of handing down through the generations...but even more so if it was in shipshape condition...
Its do able and there are acrylics that would be a close match.
Cheers.

If those are celuloid covers, they are not outgassing - yet. If they were, the portion of the blades above the blade wells would be corroded/black, as would the back spring. Also, the bolsters would show some corrosion, and the covers themselves would be shrunk, creating noticable cover/bolster gaps.
At least that is what happened on the knives I had with outgassing celluloid.

An option for the spring is to find a donor/parts knife for the spring. That might be less expensive than having a new spring fabricated.
New spring or a good used one, you should get an Acrylic MOP covers (or real MOP) put on at the same time, IF the original covers are indeed celluloid, and not real MOP. (There is a chance they are real MOP.) That way you avoid problems down the road, a second trip to the person who does the work for you, and the cost of replacing the covers seperately.
A spring and new covers at the same time shouldn't cost much more than just the spring, since the knife will already be apart?

Looks like the blades are pretty full on it. :) It must have gotten good care, and stropped more than put to a stone. :)
