Hey guys I am wanting to get a good knife for hunting (gutting deer) and toting around in the woods while on hikes or camping. Right now I am looking at the Short Ka-bar or the Ka-bar revurve, which one would you recommend for the job?

Thanks,
Bozman

I own a Kabar shorty and have dressed out a few deer with it. Works just fine, but I will say that the sharpened clip is a liability. It nicks things you'd rather not nick and you really need to be aware of it all the time. I use it because I like it, find it a fine field knife and just wanted to I guess, but there are better designs for that purpose. If the recurve you mention is this one:

I would expect it to function about the same. If you were looking for a dedicated field dressing tool I'd say search for something in a 4" drop point style (there are plenty to choose from) but as an all-around knife that would occasionally dress a deer, either would do the job.

BTW, welcome to Bladeforums!

Thanks Blue Sky, I only dress out 2-3 deer a year so I think I will go with the Kabar shorty for the fact that I will use it for other things more than i will field dressing.
