KA-BAR Tech Talk

Murph,

Don't underestimate the strength of Grivory. The KA-BARLEYS have been tested by members of Power Drinkers of America (PDA) and found to be more than adequate. Remember; Grivory is the plastic used in the sheaths that dull the knife edges! ;)
Seriously, we looked at having real leather but it would get expensive and we would have to charge people too much for them. We like the idea of inexpensive or free.
If you are a pro, then you should get the KA-BAR Beer taps with the Leather 1217 handles. They will be available very soon.

Thats great news about the beer tap Toooj I don't know what a leather stacked Ka-Barley would cost but I would pay $30 for one. Just because its classic Ka-Bar but don't worry I still will get a grivory one. Also I cant seem to find the Lake effect yet. Is it available?
Thanks

Thank you, Toooj, for responding to Orca's posting of my Q thread.

This 598 balances nicely and feels great in my medium sized hand.

I vote for a reincarnation project. :D :D

Psyop,

Both are out there.

Hi Paul! Your Dozier Lightweight folders are a great bang for the buck. I have an Orange one incoming.
Can you offer these with a tanto blade? This would be way cool.
Thanks.

Okay.. this is kind of a final hope situation so, here goes..
I have been searching the net for awhile and I seriously have not gotten an answer from anything or anyone. Is the ka-bar #1117's standard sheath compatible with either the TDI clip or any size of tek-lok?

why are manufacturers using torx screws? my tdi has 'em, and i see them on other knives as well. i hate them almost as much as i hate phillips head screws. they always feel like they're on the verge of stripping.

Toooj,

This has probably been asked, but I can't find it so I'm going to ask again.

Would Ka-bar consider another run of the sabre ground BK16? Perhaps as a limited run for the Beckerheads? I only ask because, I want one. It's a blade so out of reach that it's painful.:(

Alright there's something I don't understand. I've read a lot about the history of what's known as the KA-BAR knife that the military ordered and used for so long, how the design was an improvement over the M3 trench knife for greater utility purposes, like prying open crates, opening cans, digging holes, cutting roots, cutting wires, etc. But on the website such activities are said to void the warranty.

Is this because the military ordered millions of them in a government contract, and would simply issue a new one to any soldier who broke their when using their knife as a prybar when they weren't intended for such purposes?

Hi Tooj,

I was wondering how hot a blade would need to get before affecting the heat treat?
I have heard varying theories on this subject and I figure you're the man to ask.
Thanks,

Tooj the BK24 has been out for a while now. How is it selling and can we please have a BK21 now??????? :D

This is not really a kabar question but you would be able to answer my question I think.

Is all 1095 steel the same before heat-treat or are there different quality's of 1095? For example, Is steel supplier A 1095 different than steel supplier Bs 1095?

Thank you

I like the higher grind on the current USMCs. I first noticed it at a Cabelas in Pennsylvania, in September. I saw another two examples in Buffalo, NY two days ago, and I bought one. I really hope this change is permanent, as the grinds were too low for my liking.

I don't know what they are but I do know that I'd buy them in a heartbeat if I saw them in an antique store.

Man. I'm kinda bummed that Toooj won't be here to answer our questions anymore. He was always so awesome at helping us out.

Thanks Toooj for everything.

Hope you will swing by from time to time and say hi.

Good luck with your new endeavor and we all wish you well.
