These two knives came to me this week, and I've been itching to try them out. Of course they went through the Fonly test, this is where I take a large piece of wood, break it into four varried sizes. Then, get a fire going, now I didn't have a fire this time considering I was using some treated wood, but I did all the steps I would have just didn't get a fire going. So, here they are.
-Ka-Bar usmc:
11-7/8" oal
7" blade
~10 Oz
1095 carbon steel
leather sheath.
-Buck 119:
10-1/2" oal
6" blade
Bucks 420HC
8.5 Oz
leather sheath
Here is what was going to be split up, a Piece of 1X6.
First up was the ka-bar. Now it didn't do bad at all, I would say 90 percent of what the BK7 can do because of its thickness. where as the bk7 split on the way down, the ka-bar the same, but not much.
This was the chopping test, 6-8 hits and I was through.
So there, my method of fire making, get the four steps done and it'll be fun, after tinder, shavings, sticks, splits and chunks.
Works everytime

Now for the Buck 119. I hated it for this work, it had a hell of a time batoning, the swedge chewd my baton, it took forever to get through. It was too thinly ground so it had to be batonned all the way through, unless I twisted it, but thats not a good Idea to do with any knife.
Now, in the time it took to chop one of these in half I could get two done with my ka-bar.
Now for my favorite part about this knife, its cutting efficiency. Making shavings was so easy it wasn't funny, well actually it
was. I had total control over the knife, If I wanted big shavings I got them, same as if I wanted smaller ones. Where as the ka-bar
didn't have as much control, though better than the BK7. The buck reminded me alot of the Revolver H.
Over all I like the ka-bar more, its soots me better and is a fair amount sturdier, holds an edge better and take the abuse. Both knvies started shaving, but only the ka-bar came out with scraping ability. the buck will still cut, but not shaving anymore. In the cutting ability, I like the Buck more, so, If I was taking an axe, I would take the buck. If I was worried about wight I would take the ka-bar and a folding saw.
