I'm looking for a new knife and both the Ka bar USMC and the SOG Seal Pup are at my hunting store. I'm looking for a survival knife that will be strong, functional, and hold a good edge. From your experience, which would you choose and why? Or is there a better knife you've used around the same price range?

They're both good choices but there's a pretty good size difference if I'm not mistaken

Whichever one sets your soul on fire the most. I'd say they're close enough that you just go with the one that feels the best to ya.

Beware - Even though you only asked about these two specifically, I bet someone chimes in with some different brand.

I like the Becker BK 7 or BK9, but, of the 2 you mentioned, I'd go with the Ka-Bar.

have em both, kabar all the way, no contest. SEAL pup (like most SOGs IMHO) are pleasing to the eyes, dont perform as well as comptetitors.
i would prefer RAT RC6

While the Kabar is an excellent knife, the SOG Seal Pup ain't no slouch either. It has a full tang while the Kabar has a rat-tail tang

I'd agree with the Ka Bar as well. Most of them are coated so other than the edge, you won't have to worry about rust too much. Just throw some oil on it from time to time.

I have no experence with SOG knives. I will say that when I was in, Marines (in general) were hard on gear. We had a saying "Nothing made by man is Marine Proof." However, the KA-BAR is pretty damn close.

Not bad choices either way you go, but the Ka-bar has the edge on this one... 1095 carbon steel is better or similar in every category excepting corrosion resistance.
