Ka-Ooops. EDU: how to fubar a KaBar

I hate talkin S#$@ on kabar, but i'm not surprised. I tested a RAT7 and USMC side by side and there is no comparison. RAT7 all the way. plus my friends Kabar Mule folded when it shouldnt have and left him with a nasty scar. Kabar is a legend, but there are better outdoor tools nowadays IMO.

I'm not displeased at all with it. That said though, I picked up the RAT for $70 which is a deal IMO. And close to what the Kabar costs. So its no contest for me.

yeah just cancelled my kabar order from lastnight after watching the knife test video... I'm sure there good knives but I can get alot better slicers that I can't beat on for the same amount of dough...does that make any sense...

RR,

Check out that guys test of the Buck Nighthawk. http://www.knifetests.com/page20.html

I pretty much had this look on my face ==> ,while watching the videos. Unreal how much abuse the Buck takes. Definitely worth watching.

Chris

You guys could also take a look at the Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie videos at that site. Not all Ka-Bars are "easy to break". ;)

Yeah, comparing a $50 USMC Ka-Bar against at least a $100 RAT7... real fair. Of course it's going to fail in comparison. Not saying that price is synonymous with quality, but it's an understood thing with Ka-Bar and Ontario you get what you pay for, and that is a lot for the money.

Now, compare a Ka-Bar Impact, or a D2 Ka-bar, or something a little bit more fair, you might have a better competition.

To a relative knife newb, it seems like Ka-Bar is what most "survival", "wilderness", and "combat" knives are compared against.

And as for the bent knife, go carve that canoe!!!

While I wouldn't call them a slicer, I used my kabar as my one-and-only kitchen knife for almost a year in my first apartment. Worked great, don't think I sharpened it more than once or twice, and I know I sent it through the dishwasher at least a few times!

the wife raises hell when I do that. Like it's dirty or something. My knives are much cleaner than the crap we have for kitchen blades.

I'm not comparing anything. And I was perfectly happy with the kabar.

um.... wash the kitchen knives?

a few of us in the household use our outriders or edc fixed blades i made in the kitchen. Doesn't bother anyone, but for work we do have some good kitchen blades. Worth having, and worth teaching people how to use them!

Mr Bauer, wasn't talking about you. but please keep us updated on bending it back and further performance once it's been bent up like that.
