Kaala Neck Knife - Love it! Anyone else?

Love mine too, thanks to Buckaholic for the info I needed. :) ...

You are welcome Ryomaru.

Hey...so I decided to wear my Kaala today...BTW, it is absolutely illegal in California to wear it concealed (reference: Stainz' post). The heck with it and everything I learned in Kindergarten. http://www.mienet.com/humanity/learned_in_kindergarten.html

Bums me that while I have only extracted this knife less than perhaps 100 times that it no longer sits secure in the sheath.
Is this the same prob that peeps were experiencing with the Hartsook sheath of yonder?

Pisses me off that the only thing that keeps it from slipping out totally from the sheath is my beer belly.

And, so far as choking me...someone grabs me and tries to choke me with a dog tag chain is gonna be very disappointed. Someone ran that drill on me in Basic Traiining about 30 years and 70 pounds ago and it doesn't work.
My fat neck would break the chain just before I reach around and bust his nose with my open palm.

Buckaholic (and anyone else who cares): I have a solution for the loosening stud thing that is suppose to keep it in the sheath upside down (I had the same problem).

First I tried gluing a piece of metal along the piece the stud comes out of (it fell off in about 10 seconds), then I cut the metal down, bent the ends a little, and wedged it across the spring-thing the stud comes out of, with the ends hooking into the cut-outs. I tinkered with the bend angles and got it to stay put very firmly (about halfway down the spring-thing). Careful you don't allow the metal to extend into the sheath where it can contact the knive. It works GREAT now. It's kind of a friction sheath, I don't even think I need the stud anymore (but I left it). It comes out just as easily as before, but only when I want it to (you MUST push the release tabs).

I recommend this trick to anyone that carries a Kaala. It didn't add any thickness or noticeable weight.

If someone from Buck is reading this, please redesign the spring-thing on the Kaala's sheath. Maybe a strictly friction sheath would work better.

Thanks Sperron...
I fixed it up but rotating the knob that holds the knife in the sheath. Apprarently, part of the plastic knob wore out at the 6 o'clock position from the relatively few deployments of the Kaala. The 6 o'clock position is where gravity will let the knife slip out if it doesn't grab the steel when worn as designed (upside down).

After turning the knob to a point where there was no wear there (I'm a poet), it seems fine now.

FWIW, Buck contacted me when I e-mailed them yesterday to repalce the sheath. I told Joe, that I had a remedy. Good peeps there in Post Falls.

Love it makes a great hunting knife, easy to clean, use it and the hartsook w/custom horizontal carry sheaths by Kenny Rowe Leather.

As to the noose concerns. Make a paracord loop as usual. cut it in the middle, and then rejoin it with elecricians shrink tube. It will still carry the weight of the knife and if the sheath gets hung up, or anyone grabs the cord it will come apart. It is actualy better to make the break towrd the front but some find it uncomfortable.
