Kabar Becker BK11 - Nice sheath - Poor grinds.

Corpus, and any others, please contact Kabar about the grinds. If you are not happy with your purchase, give Kabar a chance to make it right.

Sometimes it happens, but I can agree with the comments made. I would contact Kabar, and talk to Toooj, or any one of the great people that work there.

All,

Okay; Here is the story on the chamfer grinds: These blades were made in Japan. When we got the blades, the corners were not chamfered. It made for an uncormfortable hold. We sent them back for rework and this is what we got back. Not the best quality job, but instead of making a bad situation worse we decided to just release the knives. If you are unhappy, please send the knife back to me. I'll take the knife up to our lab and correct; Or I can exchange. But be aware that you may get a knife that is equally bad.
The best way to remedy the situation would be to take a file and carefully rebevel the edges yourself. The outside layers of 410 stainless are fairly soft and easy to work. It seems that most BeckerHeads are pretty adept at modifying knives.
In any event, if you need to send back to KA-BAR, send it to my attention, whether you want it exchanged or repaired, and a return address.
We'll take care of you.

Reads like they all have the problem, to one extent or another. I'd still consider getting one myself (and may, since I want a BK11 of some type). I'm pretty confident I could fix the chamfers myself with no problem. Heck, I think I could make them look better blindfolded AND drunk.

Thanks for the info Toooj, I absolutely understand the comfort factor, the edges on that knife are sharp. Like I said, handle is a bit fugly but the blade is gorgeous, that's why I asked if the standard Necker scales fit on the SanMai version.

Quarter Tank and Rockspyder,
Unfortunately they all have that problem to a certain degree. But as discussed, it's an easy fix.

Arkanian,
The Micarta BK-11 Scales will fit with a little bit of sanding and shaving. The Japanese maker did not have CAD capabilities and they didn't use our files so the cutouts were just a hair off. But Micarta is easy to work and you should have no problem if you go that route.
Hope this helps.

But it's a worker. It's meant to be a little ugly on the outside.
That's just it though, It's was a special run of what 1500 or 2000 pieces, Its not supposed to be ugly at all. Those range from $75 to $100 bucks, Thats 2 to 3 times the regular BK 11 price. I was gonna get one of those, holding off now though.

That is only how "I" feel about it. I don't expect others to share my view. Not to mention, Toooj already stated it's an easy fix. Your money, your choice ;) .

Here's how I see it... All of my knives will get used. I don't sweat the small stuff myself. Yes, with those grinds, it's not a pretty knife, but Beckers and Kabars have never claimed to be pretty. I have yet to EVER get a factory produced knife that was totally perfect. At the price point for Becker/Kabar, I don't expect perfection and I don't care if it's perfect. I know that Ethan and Paul will take care of ANY issues I ever have and that's good enough for me.

Every knife company has the same issues, whether its Becker or Busse.
