After I started a thread on these yeterday I ordered one from knife center with standard shipping.... around 4:30 pm today there was a knock on my door and it was the UPS... man!! now that is service!!
This appears to be a solid little blade it has a nice wide profile which I like it can be used as a spoon and this one spreads peanut buttter really well.
I've heard some people say that the blade was dull out of the box, but mine easily shaved hair... and the flat grind made some loopy curls out of dried sycamore.
The handle is a little bit on the shortside.... It allows for a good 3 fingered grip and my pinky can sort of curl around the bottom which still allows me a small amount of control....The handle if left as is, is thin...THis lends it self to the thin profile of a neck knife which can be worn concealed if need be, keeps the whole package really flat and compact, besides most utility cutting tasks don't require you to have a vice like grip...I however did a quick paracord wrap with the included 550 and now the grip is awesome and comfortable..could do almost anything with it now.
it has a black coating on it which I imagine helps protect the carbon steel blade...but I'd rather do without it I feel (and this maybe just psychological) that the coating sometimes increases blade friction when slicing...and it also prevents using the spine of the blade to strike a ferro...Aside from that the knife itself is perfect
It comes standard with a proportionately large kydex sheath....I've heard alot of folks sat they don't like it..but I have yet to see a sturdier kydex sheath this thing is bomb proof...it is taller than it needs to be, but is flat and the whole package can be tossed into a cargo pocket or worn under a tshirt and not be noticed..
All in all I love this knife a great choice for a dayhike or even edc..it's a slick little number...I think one of these couple with a large chopper would cover almost anything you might encounter...I'll definitely be getting another..for 35 bucks I can't think of a good reason not too, it is a bit difficult to ge the knife out without some practice.. as the retention is ridiculously tight, but this adds to the scurity of the knife while hiking traversing rough terrain.
I'm headed over to my buddys tomorrow for a skills day so I'll be giving it a bit more of a work out.. but already this is a winner in my book.
