I have to say I really really like this knife, it's a kabar in s35vn :D with a bone linen micarta handle (which should be excellent)

but only 2 things really, really annoy me...
the huge hole near the point of the blade, and the crazy cut job on the sheath
BK98_ProductImage_Sheath.png

WHY??

am I just not seeing it? Why did they do this? Without these 2 issues this could be a home run

Looks like finger grooves in the sheath, perhaps for removing the sheath with wet hands?

As for the hole, I honestly don't know.

Yeah, I absolutely cannot stand holes in a fixed blade ( blade hot handle )
An old school meat cleaver is one thing, but otherwise I consider them absolutely pointless and nothing will ever change my mind.
Im sure this will sell though, because all the stuff I don't like is what most people do and buy.

So you can hang it on a knife rack?...that is my guess on why the hole is there, I like the way the blade looks with or without it

The hole is a "a nod to the KA-BAR kitchen knives of the past," according to the site that was linked.
I rarely click on links, I just gave my 2¢ which turned out to be 1¢

It says in the description that the knife is a tribute to “kitchen knives of the past” so maybe the hole is supposed to be a nod to the hole in cleavers. Still think it is dumb though. (Incidentally why do cleavers have that hole? To hang them?)

Maybe the sheath is made that way as a tribute to something too. Either way it makes the sheath way wider than it needs to be.

Obviously the hole is to hang the knife.

Nice looking blade. A bit too overpriced for what it is, IMO.

And how exactly is that?

That appears to be the case. I have come across "...Holstex sheath features finger grooves to allow for easy extraction."

Shame @Ethan Becker isn't a member here...he could give us more detail. :D;)
That's funny, there is both a ka bar forum and a Becker forum.
This could have gone in either, if in the Becker forum it probably would have had better answers immediately too.

Also, Ethan Becker said that it also makes for easy hanging in camp. This would lokely be since most surfaces native to a campsite are not the cleanest.

Come on Bill, you know cleanliness is not an issue in the woods! Haven't you ever heard of the 5 Second Rule? :D
Yep. I have actually seen it in action.
Allow me to regale you with an anecdote from my early 20s...

Two of my buddies and I were camping at Lake George in NY. After a morning of fishing followed by copious amounts of beer, we decided to make burgers for lunch.

As the burgers were cooking, my buddy Jared headed off to use the facilities. I was manning the grill and while he was indisposed, I went to flip the burgers. Five of six were successful, well, all successfully flipped, but one flipped into the dirt...

The burger was promptly picked up, wiped "clean enough" then doused in beer and placed back on the grill with its location noted by Chris and Myself.

Jared gets back, Chris buns the burger, and hands them out. Jared receive the one with "extra spices". As he takes his first bite we can hear the grit crunching in his teeth while we sat 4' away on either side of him.
His only remark? "Man... there is a lot of ash on my burger... How about you guys?"

We were in tears, and he didn't pause again for anything other than a swig of beer to wash it down...

Almost 20 years later and we still laugh about it...

That's some funny stuff right there! If I drop food, which I have done so a few times, I'll rinse with water and scrub it all away, so no grit for me! Looks like Jared won the burger lottery on that one!

And how exactly is that?

Well because of the undulating plastic that flares out so far beyond the eyelets. It’s not so bad the first two eyelets closer to the handle but the two closer to the tip, especially the one the closest could have been brought in closer. I understand it was probably a stylistic choice possibly as a tribute to something.

They could have made the sheath less wide by following the contour of the blade with the eyelet placement like these two bottom sheaths.

I guess they wanted the eyelets in a straight line with that undulating kydex cut around it for some reason. I got the impression maybe they were trying to make it look sort of like wavy cut leather or something.
