I have a used Thorn SOLD.
Kabar's long discontinued production of the Bob Dozier design, a minimalist gentleman's folder with smooth lines, lightening-quick one-hand deployment, and the magnificent edge-retention of coarse-finish D2 tool steel hardened to 61 Rc. Despite years of use, it has remained razor-sharp with only minimal stropping. The choil-less spear-point blade is thin, hollow-ground, satin-finished, and folds almost perfectly between the scales so that only the index tabs are left exposed. The tolerances on this knife are very tight. The spine is unsharpened. The scales are gray anodized 6063 aircraft aluminum that resists damage very well. This one has a few tiny nicks visible upon close examination from being carried and used regularly. The pocket clip, leaf-lock, and fittings are stainless steel. Note that the knife is held together by only TWO pins - in the pivot and base of the handle - with otherwise completely open construction. The leaf-spring liner forms a "T" upon which the blade tang rests to be locked open, a feature I have not encountered in any other knife. The ball-bearing detent is strong enough to act as a blade-stop when the knife is closed, clicking audibly into place. The tang is slanted to adapt to wear. The knobs on the tang sides are for indexing, common on most of Bob's designs - not flippers. The thumbstud acts as a secondary stop for when the blade is closed. It is knurled to enhance grip and is positioned such that, with a flick of the thumb, the blade flies open faster than any A/O knife I've seen. Design, fit, & finish would rival higher-end production and custom knives, which is perhaps why the knife was discontinued and why they are so very hard to find. This is your chance, perhaps your last chance, to own one.
