I have more fixed blades than I could use up in 5 lifetimes, but I’ve seen a few shots of this one and I’m interested! It’s the best modern rendition of a Pukko I’ve seen. Made in Taiwan from D2. Looks like it’s a similar rattail construction to other KaBars. Anyone got one!?

op asked if anyone had 1 of the above, not if you bought overseas blades. You’re the one out of line
This is a discussion forum. I don't need to be asked for my opinion to give it. Thankfully, no one here needs to concern themselves about whether or not Kentucky Bird appreciates it.

Hope this helps. Take care. 😇

We have a place for political concerns / discussion and this is not it !

My preferences about country of origin have absolutely nothing to do with politics. If you think that buying USA-made knives over outsourced knives is a political statement, that's on you.

KA-BAR has a long tradition of American manufacturing, and it's always a shame seeing such a company make products in China or Taiwan instead, even if they still have USA-made knives.

Just my opinion as it pertains to this knife.

So Canada would be OK , and of course Mexico ? How about Central and South America ? Italy ?

Jailhouse lawyering aside , of course it's political . If not a quality concern or political , then what's your issue exactly ?

Pretend it was made somewhere acceptable to you . What do you think of the knife per se ?

IMO it's interesting ,but not very exciting . 🤷‍♂️

I'm more concerned about the tang. The original Kabars tend to snap.
I wouldn't say the "tend to snap", that makes it sound like you'll just pull it out of the sheath to find it in two pieces some day.

They are strong knives, but like all knives, will break when pushed beyond their limits. Their limits may be reached before other, more stout knives limits are reached, but that hardly means they "tend to snap".

However, when pushed beyond their limits that is often the failure point.

I like USA and Canadian made knives. I like to support US and Canadian manufacturing in general. I like to support US and Canadian jobs and keep my money in local economies. Once again, this is not a political statement, as much as you might like it to be.

As for the knife, I think it's ugly and I don't feel it comes off as particularly well made. And I would feel the same were it made by my countrymen.

The original kabars have a flawed tang transition and do often snap with heavy use. They shouldn't be as fragile as they are imho. Stick tangs can take plenty of abuse when radiused properly.

I like this knife but I want to see the tang first.

Both actually look like pretty useful designs. I don’t have a lot of experience with Taiwan D2 but the little I have has been good. What’s the price point on these ? Might make a great beater or car kit knife.

* just looked them up - $130-150 ish. Kind of high considering options In similar price range.

Inspired by Peltomen ranger knife? Other than that I can’t see the puukko..

I do like the clean looks though. Also reminds me of Williams tanto designs.

edit: typos

Yeah, it would be nice to see the tang, but I'm going to say it's a stick (NOT rat-tail, though) tang like the 1320 and the Mark 1 USN. No, those two won't hold up to Joe X or even the DBK bros, but that's crazy abuse and my Mk 1 is a good cutter. This "Dust" thing is like a space-puukko! I like it!!

Hmm, looking at the pics on kabar.com, I'm thinking it's their response to the Peltonen M95 and M07 Sissipuukko knives (sissipuukot). That's what they remind me of, anyway.
