Kabar Elephant toe

Sunfish- a very large knife quite capable of giving a pachydermal pedicure.

You know it! :D

Those are some beautiful GEC 'fish, both of you!  I may have to save up the knife budget for a little while and then start hunting for one... :o
Yeah, the site was a labor of love. I couldn't find the info I wanted out there, so decided to put in the time, and talk to people, and then share the info with everyone who was interested. I originally hoped the content would be used on the official NKCA site, but that didn't pan out.
Now that you mention it, I do remember hearing the name Snowshoe somewhere. It definitely fits the bill for this pattern.
Hopefully NKCA at least decides to use (and credit for) your idea and document their club knives. Maybe with links to various BF threads for background information. ;)

I'm glad someone is doing it, though, and your labor turned out most useful.

Thanks guys. I never much liked the look of these before but they aren't near as stubby as I thought they were. I'm going to have to pick up a cheap one at some point to try the pattern out.

Awesome 'fish, nutoknives!

I briefly thought about Case when I sat my older "plain" 'fish next to the Ka-Bar -- on first glance the pin layout seemed similar -- but the blades and bolsters are different from pretty much every one I've seen on a Case. The Ka-Bar bolsters match the 3 you pictured here. Maybe these are all Queen builds?

Chasing down the factories responsible for some of our favorite knives is a fascinating endeavor, but it sure can be frustrating sometimes. It is pretty awesome how the collective knowledge of the porch can solve so many of these mysteries, in the end. :) Thanks for the information and for sharing!

Believe the Toes done by Case as the 5 Dot you show with the etching the same as a Ka-Bar elephant toe done for the club knives with same etching with simulated ivory scales was in touch with Ka-Bar but history keeping not their strong suit and information very hard to come by nice knives, and always try to share what little knowledge I have thanks for the nice comment

I usually see those Rough Rider 'fish in the shorter 3" pattern, but I'm sure there are some big fellas out there. For me, it's like a trapper or a stockman. When I think of the pattern I default to the 4" or bigger version. That being said, I have smaller versions of each and I'd be amenable to a baby 'fish if it ticked my other boxes. There's something comforting about the spacious frames on the big fellas, though, almost like you're not even handling a folding knife.

This is the truth! Seems overly difficult to find the story behind a lot of Ka-Bars. I've got a few things to research, I think I'll take some time after work tonight and poke around during dinner, see what else I can uncover.
