anyone have one of these seems like a lot of knife for not alot of money...good user for heavy camp work??

They look good to me Riley, I have toyed with getting one a few times !!!

I have heard many good things about all the large ka-bar choppers, I had the kukri for years and just gave it to my brother who also loved it, might pick up the heavy bowie or the recurve machete sometime soon.
That kukri could really chop!

I have the Heavy bowie and the Kabar Camp Knife. Both do a good job on heavy knife chores.

I also have both...both great for camp chores. The Kabar Camp knife holds a little better edge than the Heavy Bowie (different steel); but the Bowie is a better chopper.

I've got the Bowie but not the camp knife, after a long debate. I like the bowie a lot. I've not gotten to do a really thorough review yet, but it does a good job chopping so far. Very good balance. Steel is easy to make very sharp, and holds a decent edge. Comfortable to choke up on for sure, which was one of the draws to it over the camp knife. Overall I'm really happy with it, and expect it will be a common woods companion.

I have the large and short heavy bowies and i can tell you that they are excellent knives and since the cam beckers are gone the ka-bar's have to be the best value in a hard use knife on the market with ontario big blades coming in as the second best value.

i don't have one, but just look at it. unless the heat treat sucks, it'll do fine. i think since you were doubtful enough to ask here first, you should just play it safe and pay the extra $400 for a battle mistress.

I'll reiterate a question by another forumite in a different thread...Does anyone know what the tang on the heavy bowie is???Is it a stick tang like the USMC or more of a thicker fullstyle tang??

Pretty solid. I really like the grip, never had any hot spots.
(For the kukri, mind you.)
I think the bowie is my next purchase though. Or a bark river north star.
Or my first Busse. Or a custom tomahawk.:D

So many choices....

The Bowie is quite nice if you have some extra cash laying around. For only about 40 bucks why wouldn't you get one?
