That's a fine knife in it's own right, maybe one day? It's so close to the MK1 it doesn't seem likely though, for that same reason the Pilot doesn't have much chance either I fear...
Well...
I grew up w/ Camillus pilot's knives as my primary belt knife and a Buck skinner in the pack.
I think a GOOD pilot's knife will always be welcome, especially since Camillus is now shuttered.
As fer the Mk1 Navy V. the Mk1 "Garandimal"...?
They are two (2) different use knives.
The Mk1 Navy is a USGI copy... the original designed to accomplish "Navy" tasks... a thin full flat-ground blade good for things like...
...cuttin' through four (4) inch hemp line, heavy duck canvas and tarp, notchin' and fashionin' poles...
...and peelin' taters...
It's a little handle-heavy for a utility/fighter, where you may want to release or relax to re-grip... but is fine for a "slicing" tool that doesn't require it.
The Mk1 "Garandimal", however, ... should... balance that same Mk1 handle at the first finger... like both the USMC and Short KA-BARs... Perfectly.
It's also a stouter blade for survival/utility chores like splittin'/batonin' wood or cuttin'/piercin' sheet-metal items.
There's already a market, though I wouldn't presume to tell KA-BAR how to market their products, ...
...but both Fallkniven and Cold Steel already make one. (one's expensive and the other one's crap)
I know I'd buy a few of'em... and that's on top of the two (2) 1217's, three (3) 1250's, and four (4) 2225's I've already purchased in the last year or so.
And It wouldn't replace any of'em.
I like the 1250 as a light belt knife for huntin'. It does the brush-work fine and is small enough to clean small game.
The 1217 has long been the heavy belt knife, in the heavy thickets or swamps. also the heavy camp knife.
The 2225 is replacin' the Buck skinner in the pack as well as the camp "cook" knife where the 1217 or an axe is also handy. also as the primary bushcraft tool.
This new knife...? would be a "special" survival knife. Light enough for a pack, stout enough to split logs, balanced and handy enough to "go tactical"... and fit bigger hands... better.
...but still have the outstanding KA-BAR steel and flat grind that we all know and appreciate in a field knife.
And... it's just a great lookin' knife.
But that's just me...
