I just bought a Kabar knife for a friend of mine. In the box was a brochure of all their products. From the pictures, the Machetes, heavy Bowie and Tanto look like great knives. There doesn't seem to be too many threads on these knives or Kabar in this forum. Why is that? Are these knives considered overpriced or inferior compared to other knives? Just curious.

Kabar is a great company. They make really good products for the most part and stand behind them. They also have a great relationship with several big name people in the industry like Bob Dozier for one. Lets not forget also a long history of products that have been real trend setters and collector pieces for many many years as well as military knives that have been relied upon in serious combat situations and then been passed down in families. Whats not to love? Their customer service is great, they have a super warranty and some of the Dozier designed folders they offer right now as well as several other models in their line up are some of the best values for the money in the knife industry.

I'm not a big fan of Kabar knives but it isn't a quality issue.... more of a bias for reasons I can't articulate. However, I DO LIKE the new Impact Series fixed blades, especially models # 1460 and 1461

I'd bet you'd be hard pressed to find many people who dislike Ka-bar knives. The classic USMC combat is a must own rite of passage for most knife nuts. They make good solid no nonsense products at a very reasonable price. Although I will say this, the Warthog folder was probably the ugliest folder I have ever seen.

The Dozier Thorn is one of the best knives ever for the money. It's just a beautiful little knife.

I have a Heavy Bowie and am impressed by the quality and workmanshipshown there for such a small price. It is made overseas, that´s what makes it.

would like to hear more about the heavy bowie, am seriously thinking of purchasing one for a (survival) knife. am an avid deer hunter and love the outdoors. i need something that i can seriously depend on. please no cold steel or becker comments. I only want input about the kabar h.b.

I have a Kabar 1211, and I really like it. I have not put it to very heavy use, but it seems very good quality.

Kabars are great knives and have been proven in the battlefield for centures! Nearly everyone has/had/used this knife at one time. Great knives only I personally think they are more "fighting" style knives.

I have 9 Ka-Bar knives and love em all.
Their D2 knives are really great.I have relied on them for years now and they have never failed to perform.

Hi,
Ka-Bars have proven themselves over the years with our military. They are dependable, easily maintained, and a great value.
You take care of that knife, and it will take care of you.

The Ka-Bar "machetes" are excellent. I have the Cutlass and the Kukri, and prefer the Cutlass. It's a great all 'round camp knife- a vicious chopper that will go through a 3" thick, green branch in one go, no sweat. I need to get one of the Heavy Bowies, that thing has to be amazing, given the price and the performance of the similar Cutlass as an indication.

The new line of folders is absolute junk. IMO They would work okay I guess for a total beater knife but otherwise.

I handled threee different models at Big5 , and every one of them not only had blade play but were not sharp to boot , shoddy construction and I have seen some good knives come out of overseas so that's not the issue.

Now the old traditional Ka-Bar ? yea of course , who doesnt have one of the USMC knives , those are excellent quality and an American icon.

I have two Ka-Bar knives, both get so-so grades from me. My first Ka-Bar was a 2501 "Two Blade Slimline." It's not well made at all, weak spring and loose blade. My second, a recently-purchased Dozier. It's OK for it's price, but there are much nicer knives available for only a little more $$.

Still, I'd like to get one of their USMC knives. Anyone know why the KaBar costs 25% more than the Camillus version? Are they worth it?

Best Wishes,
-Bob
