I picked up this set of Kabar Collector's Club knives, made in 1977 (by Camillus?) yesterday, as well as a nice little MOP lobster pen with 14k bail, shield and I think pins, and a Case 640045R 6 dot in great shape. The Kabars are beautiful, each one has a nice matched set of thick stag handles, they match not only front and back but match each other as well, and have the dog head shields, and the model number/date of manufacture stamped on the inside of the liners as well. They are immaculate, and came in a nice walnut box, minus the original inset. It was a good haul!

The KA-BAR knives are made by, of all people, KA-BAR, in Olean, NY. Why would you think they were made by Camillus?

That is an incredible set!

They are really beautiful knives, the pictures don't do them justice, they have a high polish on the blade, the stag is just awesome, and the dog's head is inlaid perfectly, not on top of the stag like some shields and not too deep. I couldn't walk away from them, but didn't know until I got home that they were sold as a set.

I had to research them when I got home, one of the things I read made me believe they were Camillus contracted knives, I'll have to look again - unless you know otherwise? They are listed in LV4 under the Kabar Collector's club knives, but not much info is given on them. I don't know the blade steel, but there was some slight darkening on one of the edges, so I took it to my strop to polish it off, it came off in a few light strokes.

what a great find.... they look brand new.

They really do, up close they are just amazing, they appear to have been handled very little over the 33 years, in fact I would guess I've handled them more over night then they got in their lifetimes! I of course oiled the joints, and the light stop, and then took a soft towel to them to buff out the fingerprints, they are like new. It was a good day, the Case camp knife was in almost as good condition, it is a 6 dot knife with the original edge and finish on the blades, but had some light pitting here and there I had to buff out. I really scored on the lobster pen, I got it for $4.99!!!! Of couse, there is a small piece if the MOP missing on the back side, but I can live with that.

when ka-bar put these out on the market the co. had them examined by knowledgeable collectors. the opinion was unanimous .the experts said these wer'nt just knives for collectors they were identical to the quality of the old union cut. editions & actually represented a reintroduction. so good that it was if ka-bar stopped for 6 months in the old days & then resumed production.

Great pickup. That was quite a snag.
