Anyone have one of these? Does the handle come off the blade tang? Looks like it's got screws holding it on. Debating getting a couple and putting new handles on them to make hunting knives if it won't be too much of a pain in the rear.

Setting profanity aside, I shall simply say, "No, I do not now, nor will I ever, have one of those monstrosities."

You might just look for a KaBar Warthog fixed blade. It's discontinued but you might be able to find one somewhere.

Warthogs are few and far between, and people want a fortune for them. The blade on the bayonet is smaller too, better suited for a game knife.

Knarfeng, I know what you mean. I just want it so I can make a funtional knife out of it, if it's easy enough. It's the one Kabar knife I can't get turned on to as it is, but I've heard they are selling them like crazy.

i always looked at the pistol bayonet as a question waiting for an answer. i have done lots of pistol shooting since the 60s--even had a high standard target pistol in the marines with which i competed in intramural matches, while on okinawa. if your situation deteriorates to need to stick someone with a projectible weapon you are pretty much out of luck. anyway i'm glad to see any new cutlery product achive popularity with consumers.

heard so much about knives held with a pistol grip.
perhaps the idea of the pistol bayonet really was to genuinely function as an "edged" silencer.

It is the answer to that other answer that had no question (am I making sense?)...that being "we'll put tactical rails on every single solitary semi-automatic handgun, full-size, compact, and subcompact so people can hang all kinds of stuff on their weapon, maybe compromise its function, and so they can throw away all of their holsters...that's the answer to everything!"

That is what the KaBar bayonet is all about. I am not sure if KaBar hasn't made this thing as a protest. I swear I would pay extra for a nice new firearm without the cursed rail!!! But you can't...they don't make 'em...not in a config other than 1911 that is.

cramsey3006,

You can dis-assemble the whole bayonet by unscrewing the 3 side screws. Be careful as there is a spring under tension inside the handles. Other than that, it's easy.

Knarfeng,

The whole pistol bayonet thing should be taken only semi-seriously. Laserlyte and KA-BAR are smiling....

This has been gone over before on BladeForums. KaBar (actually, I believe it was Toooj) had said when the pistol bayonet was released that it was more of a novelty item, but it was a functional knife. Sometimes, even companies like to have fun.:D

That thing makes me chuckle. I like the mini one that fits on the end of the NAA .22 mini revolver even better. It's the backup to the backup backup.

Why is there a spring in the handles?

Its attached to a boxing glove that springs out and punches your opponent in the face.

I find the passionately negative opinions on this amusing. Of all the crap that knife nuts will buy, is the pistol bayonet really worth such scorn? It actually looks like it'd be a more functional knife than most real bayonets on the market, which only highlights the real absurdity here:

Q:What kind of nutty civilian buys a bayonet to use as a bayonet?

A: A nutty civilian.

Regarding the NAA, a tiny bayonet may actually make one of those things into a manstopper. Those guns are one of those things best suited to sticking onto an assailant's gut and firing, a weapon for use when in contact, or damn near. In that way, the bayonet makes sense. Unfortunately, it adds enough bulk to negate the extreme portability of the gun in the first place. May as well carry a bigger gun.
