kabar short USMC

This is the one I have
KA-1256.jpg

great knife just a bit small for my hands.
I ended up buying another Ka-bar, this one
ka1273c.jpg

Fits my hand great:thumbup:

Thanks for the big pic, I have been eye balling one of these.

i have the short and regular K-bar.

the short's handle is way too small ( thin )for an adult's normal hand. i wish they had put the regular handle onto the short version. that would have been ideal.

How do you like you KBD1 Danzo?

I like it alot Fonly.
As you know its a big knife but it has a good solid feel and is balanced.
Well made and sharp out of the box, for the price ($40.00 on Ebay) its value in my opinion.
I have only had it a few weeks so I have not taken it Bush yet.

no prob Upnorth

 $40 bucks, man I gotta pay more attention to that place, for one up here its closer to $100, haha, probably more.

Yes, a Carbon-V, satin finish one. It kicks much a** :D

Ahhh, thats what I thought, man I've been looking for a big knife, and that one has come up do to its availability...wait for it....... IN CARBON V, yeah so anyways, I take it, it has a fair amount of chopping power right? Does it have a very thin edge, like does it bite right into wood, or "carve"(I know, I know) very well?

Heh. :D

Depends what you mean by "thin". The overall bevel is not as acute/thin as the Master Hunter, but it's a bit more acute than my Ka-Bar. It has an edge bevel that comes up about 1/8" from the edge, ground just a little "steeper" than the main bevel. It chops great, slashes great, shaves hair and whittles wood as well or better than any other of my knives. In fact it blows my Ka-Bar off the lake in every respect, except that I haven't sharpened the clip. It's a lot sharper than its size might make you think, and a lot stronger than its sharpness might make you think. I believe you really can have it both ways.

The stock handle blows. It feels like it's trying to jump right out of your hand  They should have made it more like the MH handle, that has never felt awkward or unsecure to me. Or at least wider at the butt than by the guard. Unless you're one of the few who likes it, rehandle it to suit you; it's a straighforward project that can be done a couple of ways.

I'm trying to talk myself out of convexing the edge a tad, but I think it's going to happen. I've found I like a good knife even better without that slight shoulder on the edge bevel.

If you find one, or CS ever actually puts out the "new" SK-5 ones, go for it. A Trailmaster and Master Hunter go together like brats and beer :D

I know, thats what has been going through my head, I know I said I hate CS, but man, when you look at the trailmaster, it calls your name, "fonly, come get me... you'll love me, well be friends forever" :D

By thin I mean some ability to whittle wood, in my eyes my BK7 has a thin edge, I can make fuzz sticks, and I can do a fairly good whittle job on say a poll to make a point, it really surprized me.

I like how it out clsses the ka-bar, I like my bk7, but for an extra few inchs from the TM I could have a very useful chopper. And about the handle, I hope I dont mind it. I know alot of people didnt like the BK7 handle, but I really like it. Plus im no good when doing things to knives, I get a good image in my head of what I want to do, but my fingers and hands are to stupid to follow :p :D

But thanks for the over look of it, im certainly leaning towards it.

Here's one with a few years on it.

I've used it mostly as a general purpose deer hunting knife but it has also made it on a few camping trips over the years and it's held up great.
The knife hasn't seen much use lately but I consider it a keeper.
