R Appleby,

How secure and tight is the pommel to the knife when all put together? If I've got to tap morse code on the side of a submarine underwater with the pommel of the knife, is the knife gonna rattle when I'm done?

I think if you have the need to tap out morse code in a submarine, under water, you're having quite the poseidon adventure and it wouldn't matter cause you're probably gonna die anyway:D

But seriously, the pommel is very secure and all is very tight. The original was constructed in the same manner except the handle was leather and the pin was solid. This handle is G10 with a spring tempered roll pin that can be chased out.

When the new owner receives it I'll be glad to hear his review on the simple take down concept.

Thanks for the question

Well, I first thought I'd ask about hammering tent pegs into the hard ground here in VA, but the submarine scenario sounded so much better.

Good to see that the take down concept has blossomed.. The take down combat bowie that Bob did for me is top notch and with the S35 steel, light and faster than all out.. Good work as always Bob:thumbup:

It's a great knife.

As it is a USMC COMBAT knife, not sure how much hard use it's gonna see here in SoCal....being how I have swords, sticks, guns and other combat oriented objects....how about if I just enjoy it for what it is, a fine knife, vastly elevated above the production version.

Was in the Navy, and seeing how most CO's and XO's would not raise a stink about hammers, but would about long fixed blades, the hammer might be a more efficient and ready-at-hand item than a 7" blade with a pommel. FWIW, am sure it would take a thrashing easily at the pommel, but you are likely to cut the crap out of your hand in the process, this blade is SHARP!

The two knives that I have got from Bob are surely in the BEST VALUE category. Bob doesn't charge enough for the level of work he produces, that's my opinion....he does top notch work!

nice commish, brother Steven! Totally agree with you about Bob, his work and his pricing. One of my first custom knives was a ball handled trade style knife that Bob made which I picked up in the BF classifieds. I used the hell out of that thing, and sold it for more than I paid

Super stoked that this knife exists- thanks for making it happen you's

Bob has made about 7 knives for me since I found out about his expertise.. I actually found out how excellent Bob's work is when I first got one of his custom mini kukris from an acquaintance in Oz. Since then, I have had collaborated with Bob on about 4 designs that I tweaked to make them more suitable for my needs and locale.. Never missed a step in their use and trust me, they have been used in the jungle environment of the pacific islands and a couple of them have accompanied me on trips to the Philippines where I train and from time to time do seminars in combatives.. I always recommend Bob for anyone who is looking for an exceptionally made knife which can take a licking and keep on ticking (sorry Timex)

Thanks Steven, Loren and Bill for your kind words. Glad you've all been pleased with your knives. Thanks for some cool projects.
