KAI/ZT charges for "premium" replacement parts?

I didn't mean to start a debate here, my bad. Just wanted to see if there were changes made, etc.

Regardless, I got some clarification that they charge for "premium parts" which are beyond basic screws, clips, etc if they require extra machining and/or made out of specific materials like titanium etc.

Makes sense to me now. Thanks for all of the replies and input.

Thank you for this post, it's the first I've heard about this. It doesn't surprise me, but it's still good to get information out there.

Why would you give away titanium, DLC, or annodized clips?

If the knife has failed in any way such as the pivot failing to stay screwed together after disassembly, send it in! Ill bet you wont get charged unless it was blatantly damaged.

Parts grabbers have created part of this problem also.

ZT charging for "premium" parts started in early 2016 with things like machined/milled titanium DLC clip & pivot on 0804CF, anodized pivot, backspacer and clip on 0456, etc. Standard steel parts are still no charge.

For reference, a simple Hinderer anodized titanium clip and filler tab goes for $60.
