Greetings fellow knifeknuts! Here’s my newest iteration of the Kaibab Kommando. The Kaibab Plateau is north of the Grand Canyon, Arizona, a very isolated region with limited accessibility (real mountain man country).

52100- Dimensions - 5/32”x 12 5/8”” OAL and 7 3/4” from tip to guard and the height is 1 1/2”. Hand sanded to 600 grit for a clean satin finish. Paul Bos Heat Treat to 60/61. The edge was about .015” before sharpening. The spine is well rounded for a comfortable thumb, the deep swedge can be sharpened and it flares at the tip for extra strength. Balances on the front spacer.

The handle features a blued steel guard with comfortable access to the spine. Bocote with red and black spacers set off the elk handle and sculpted blued pommel. The handle is finished with multiple coats danish oil and carnauba wax. The handle feels fine in my average size hand but might not be so good for a smaller hand.

The premium dangler sheath features my custom Standing Bear carving. He’s been hibernating for a couple of years, just woke up, he’s lookin’ at you and he’s HONGRY,...nom,nom,nom.

It’s $280 to your US door, and of course your satisfaction is my only priority. I can accept paypal, check or MO, and the price includes fees and free shipping in the US.

Thanks so much for looking! Please feel free to comment, ask anything here or via PM.

Hi Jack, thanks for that! I do like a subtle recurve too. My antlers are big. The smallest crown is 3x3" and the one this came off of is over 4x3. Way too big for even the end of a knife handle but I do love the look. Maybe I'll find some deer sheds somewhere and use the elk for belt buckles.

If I could pick a knife posted on here in the last couple of years for a Christmas gift, here it is! Yep, this one, John, just in case anyone asks. That recurve alone is enough for me. And the standing bear embossed sheath....all the goodies one could ask for. The pommel and guard, yowsa! I could go on, but there is a very long sweet list of cool stuff for all to see. Well done, John.

I know the feeling.I got one of John's knive's between my b.day and Christmas, and it covered both events perfectly.

Hi Grady slaughter Grady slaughter , considering all the extreme talent on these pages that's high praise indeed, as they said in waynes world movie..."we're not worthy we're not worthy". Thanks, but seriously IMHO it's a pretty good bang for the buck. F fluffyblade I'm sure glad it got there on time too. One never knows about shipping overseas.

Really nice John Cahoon John Cahoon ! You’re work is always top notch.

There was once a maker (who is missed) on this site named Jack O'Neill Jack O'Neill , who posted a knife called “JWC Persian Fighter”. Said it was inspired by another maker on this site. Were you the “JWC” that he referred to and if so, do you have any plans to dust off that pattern?

Hi Smiticus Smiticus Yes that was me but I lay no claim to inventing that sloping rear tang shape, I just used it that time. Jack was kind enough to ask though, a real stand up guy and we all miss seeing his fine work here for sure. I actually do have one in the works, in O1. It's not a Persian shaped blade but its got a similar rear tang slope. More of a camper size thingy.

Super cool John Cahoon John Cahoon . As always, I can’t wait to see your work. BTW, I think I might own the previous sloping rear handled knife you made. It had wenge handles, and is quite the slicer. It’s super comfy too.

If anyone is on the fence, John’s knives are first rate. His leather work is exceptional as well. Great maker, so buy in confidence.

Guys, I have a knife from Jack O'Neill that was posted as 'Persian Fighter' about maybe three years ago. Perhaps I can get a pic in here to see if similar. Whoa, guess I can! This and a JWC Black River are stars of the show here. View attachment 2419813

Hi Smiticus Smiticus I guess I forgot that was you, I should have checked my records. Thanks for the vote of confidence. When I was seeing that style handle I didn't think too much of them, but when I made a model I realized how great that handle feels. Here's a pic of yours so folks can see what we're talking about:

For sure John. That's a sweet one pictured. Wicked cool 😎.

Oh for goodness sakes, John. I have been admiring this one again and noticed in the way you set the antler section up, there is a gentle natural right hand palm swell. That utilization of your material is a great example of a reason I love your work.
