I have ordered a Kalamazoo 1x42 for sharpening and beginning blade making and it should arrive this week. I was just warned to stay away from this unit by an experienced knife making friend. He feels that the platen and work platform will interfere with accessing the whole blade. Also that it will be hard to use leather stropping belts due to the design of the platen.
Does this ring true from your experience?
He advises to get a Grizzly instead.
