What do you think? Is this a Kalinga or something else. The seller says it's a Buck, but that there's no markings or tang stamp. The bone handle looks alot like many I've seen from Pakistan. :barf:

Thoughts?

I think if there are no marks, then he hasn't any idea or he is fibbing, and I agree with you that the stag is very Paki looking.

I agree. After looking at mine, it has no pins on the guard. And that is very Paki-looking. The shape is very close though. My take, not a Buck.

That's my conclusion also. I asked him what leads him to believe that it's a Buck, but so far no reply. It's up to $76 right now and I'm thinking the winner is in for an ugly surprise.

Plumber, It's something else . Peter, the guard on your Kalinga should have two pins . Maybe a magnifier could reveal them . Thanks for the photos . DM

Here's pictures of the guards on two of mine. They both have pins. They are hard to get a picture of, but they are there. The seller got back to me and said he bought the knife about 15 years ago at a flea market and was told that it was a Buck.

Looks like a $10 Pakis, man I feel bad for the buyer.I doubt it"s even worth the price of shipping:eek:

Plumber, Nice photos . Are those the LE's offer two years ago with Ironwood ? Very nice . Notice the guard on the Paki and the one on your 401 look the same . Its the nonpointed guard those began in 1981 . That year a few of the pointed guards were around but rare . So, the change was made that year on the 401 which helps to date it .
If its a Buck, its a lunch box knife as it has no stamping . Two line 401's do exist but not one liners . DM

Often the stuff that is blamed on Pakistan is from China. However, in this case, China wouldn't even put out such poor work.

Looks like real primitive border work from the Paki area.

Last week a man from Mexico that I had searched before had an outstanding traffic warrant,he was glad it was me,smiled and handed me his knife.Heck it looked like a very used Buck 110,but after looking at it I noticed it was stamped Pakistan at the base of the blade. After he posted his bond I gave him back his knife and showed him my real Buck 110.I told him in Spanish that he should get a real Buck 110,he really liked mine and told me he thought his was real.We had a good laugh together and as he was leaving he told me next time I'm in Juarez he'd buy me a beer. lol (not likely)

Yes, two pins on the guard for Buck Kalingas. If it is polished with no patina it could be hard to see, but I would hope they put pins in, or else they would have to epoxy the guard to the blade :barf: :D

A Solider I've known since he was a kid gave me this paki,he brought back a few from the other stan:thumbup:

OOPS,here it is.

You're right about the patina. I tried another one that was bright and shiny and although I could just barely see the pins, I couldn't get them to show up in a picture.

I know that I have a Paki folder around here somewhere that has the brass center strip in the bone handle. Looks very much like the handle on the one above.

One is the ironwood and the other is the smooth buff.

I must agree with those who do not think this is a real Kalinga. The real stopper for me was the two pins visible in that center brass strip. That would not be possible without a ton of work on a already heat treated blade after market kind of thing.

Thanks for the input CJ. That was my feeling also, although I hadn't considered the pins in the handle. Some poor guy just paid $76 plus shipping for it.
