I was just wondering, what kami mark style does one prefer, and why? If it does not matter to you, please state that as well.

I personally prefer the old "carved style", I find that it gives more character and uniqueness to the blade.

2 samples below - Both are Tirtha's mark, the first is the newer "dotted" version, and the second is the old "carved" style.

I only have the carved style on my Salyan. However, I just ordered an m43 last night:) Guess I'll have to see what that one has.

I'll go with preferring carved, but not having a big issue with the dot marks.

Prefer carved but any mark is better than no mark to facilitate both authenticity and collecting.

Not having any problem with the new style, but if I were to choose, I'd go with the old style. Seems like a nice touch.

Good Post cul! I thought about doing this last night because I didnt want to bother Aunti directly. Hopefully she will se this interest. Maybe if there is enough interest to go back they will? Center punch may just be easier and faster? Id rather add another $5 to the cost or whatever to go back to the carved. Its an art in itself. Examine it close up and you can see why.

Its obvious they use different tools for different styles of lines.

I prefer carved, but you can do some good stuff with a $10 dremel electric pencil if you dial it in:
Engraved zippo of the "too d*** sharp girl" (pinup t-shirt I do for the business-blurred to eliminate rude gesture lol). This was done with an electric pencil.

I'd say that like most of you I also prefer the carved symbols. It took me awhile to figure out that Sher had made my new M-43. That said, there really isn't anything wrong with it being done in electric pencil. If anything, it helps to date the work so that in 20 years time you'll know which era your blade is from.
