Kamidog Sashimi Slayer

Well I finally got around to finishing the slayer. It aint exactly a traditional Japanese anything but it works for what I want it to be. Its not a chopper but is razor sharp! I was a real pain to have to deal with the two wood handle halves and would have been so much easier to just glue them together and drill a hole through the middle but Im calling it done. The bevels were not the easiest thing in the world to do. I finally figured out a good way to do them on my diamond hones.

I stacked the hones and used my fingers as a guide on each side of the hones to get a consistent motion and a piece of tape on top the blade for a guide as well and it worked well. The bevel for the main edge was not so easy. That could only be done by feel since it was bent. When I was done it made a really nice well defined line between the two bevels. I did not get a pic of that tho. Later I decided it would be a pain in the arse to sharpen and maintain so I sharpend by hand just like I would normally trying to keep the bevels straight. Thats what I got now.

One side of the knife is beveled.

The other side is completely flat.

I screwed up the copper bolster and sanded all the way through trying to get the malachite inlays so new a new plan had arisen. While searching for alternatives I noticed my dog chewing on that 10 point buck skull he ate a while back. Being the kind dog he is he gave me a few slices off of it and I cut a pommel cap and bolster from it and that was the end of that story.

Theres the top or right side. The black ring was not in the plan but was a work around since I didnt have enough bone thickness to add. I had to leave my dog something to chew on;)

If you look real hard you can still see some of the file marks on the spine near the bolster. Just enough to let you know what it used to be.
So there is my first real knife I can say is my blade and completely mine all mine:D Done deal!!! What next?

That looks fantastic. Very very nice. Beautiful wood, all very good. You done good weedhopper.

Awesome job!!!! Now you gotta show us what you been slicing up with it!

Thanks home! Works good on human meat:eek: While polishing on an improvised strop I managed to chuke a hole in my knee. Mear flesh wound. Im building a proper strop now:thumbup: I managed to keep all my corpuscles contained till the very end tho.
I did get a big slab of Coho salmon yesterday so it looks like it will get some use tonight.

Well OK then maybe a squeeze of lime and tequila in my seawater! Seawater is great for cooking! Slice up some taters and soak them in seawater for about 2-6 hours and then fry them up. Also works for tater chips. I always boil shrimp, crab, taters and corn in sea water. I used to find wild sage behind the sand dunes so id add a handful of that to the water as well as garlic onions and Yum Yum!!!

Looks incredible Kami Dog. Really nice size too, I would fight a stealth shark for that! With that blade you should be slicing the salmon so thin you can read through it. You need to work on making some pattern welded steel now, then make a blade out of that. Quite a step, but what you have been accomplishing so far is so well done I think you can do it.

Thanks Shav. I really want to try it sometime. I have to get my forge in order and im getting closer. I've been studying welding techniques and such and need to get some real practice forming some basic stuff before I get into pattern welding. Its on the bucket list tho i can assure you that. Bookie has been a great help. Im still getting basic monkey tools together so im getting close to forging. Actually my wife has me foraging for blackberries so I havent got much done in the shop lately:D
